NVIDIA introduced Jetson AGX Orin at GTC on November 9, 2021, promoting the platform for robotics, autonomous machines, medical devices, and other embedded edge-AI systems. The 200-TOPS figure in the launch announcement refers most specifically to the Jetson AGX Orin 32GB production module: NVIDIA’s August 2022 notice rated it at up to 200 TOPS in a 15W–40W power range. It is a module for integration into a product, not the same thing as the developer kit used for prototyping.
What NVIDIA announced at GTC
At GTC on November 9, 2021, NVIDIA introduced Jetson AGX Orin as an embedded computing platform for autonomous machines and edge AI. The company described applications including robotics and medical devices, where AI processing can take place on the device rather than relying entirely on a remote server. NVIDIA’s announcement targeted availability in Q1 2022, but that was a launch-era forecast, not a statement about current stock or regional availability. NVIDIA’s original GTC announcement also says product features, performance, availability, and specifications can change without notice.
NVIDIA said the launch platform delivered 200 trillion operations per second and offered six times the processing power of its Jetson AGX Xavier predecessor. Those are NVIDIA’s claims, not independent benchmark results established here. The six-times comparison should not be treated as a universal performance multiplier across every workload or configuration.

The clearest production-module specification is for the Jetson AGX Orin 32GB. In August 2022, NVIDIA said this module was available to order and rated it at up to 200 TOPS with a configurable power range of 15W–40W. “Up to” matters: the figure is a published maximum, not a guarantee that every application will sustain that performance at every power setting. NVIDIA’s production-module notice provides that configuration context.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL COMPUTING: Advanced single board computer featuring high-speed LPDDR5 memory for superior processing capabilities and edge AI computing performance
- CONNECTIVITY: Multiple USB ports, HDMI output, and Ethernet connectivity provide versatile interface options for various applications
- COMPACT DESIGN: Space-efficient circuit board layout integrates powerful computing components in a single compact form factor
- DEVELOPMENT READY: Ideal platform for edge AI development, programming, and prototyping with comprehensive hardware interfaces
- EXPANDABILITY: Features multiple GPIO pins and standard connectors enabling extensive hardware expansion possibilities
TOPS means trillion operations per second. It is a useful headline measure of AI-computing capacity, but by itself it does not predict how quickly a particular application will run. Real results depend on workload, software, system configuration, and power limits. The sources cited here do not establish an independent benchmark for the 200-TOPS claim.
How the 32GB module differs from other Orin options
| Option | Published AI performance | Power context | Memory and role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jetson AGX Orin 32GB production module | Up to 200 TOPS, per NVIDIA’s August 2022 notice | 15W–40W, per the same notice | 32GB module intended for integration |
| Jetson AGX Orin 64GB production module | Up to 275 TOPS, per NVIDIA’s March 2022 comparison | 15W–60W, per the same comparison | 64GB module intended for integration |
| Jetson AGX Orin 32GB with Super Mode | 241 TOPS, up from 200 TOPS, per NVIDIA’s 2026 JetPack 7.2 article | Power envelopes up to 60W, per that article | 32GB module using the software-enabled mode |
| Jetson AGX Orin developer kit | NVIDIA said it could emulate the performance of the 64GB module’s compute components | Not stated in the cited March 2022 comparison | 32GB memory; development kit, not the 64GB production module |
The 64GB module and the 32GB developer kit are therefore not interchangeable descriptions. NVIDIA’s March 2022 comparison says the kit has 32GB of memory and can emulate the other Orin modules, including the compute performance of the 64GB module. Emulation does not make the kit a 64GB production module.

NVIDIA’s 2026 JetPack 7.2 article describes Super Mode for the AGX Orin 32GB, raising its stated figure from 200 to 241 TOPS and enabling power envelopes up to 60W. This is later software-era context, not the original 2021 launch specification. Confirm software support and system configuration for a particular deployment before relying on the mode or its higher power envelope.

Choose the module for a product integration
The AGX Orin module is the relevant component when designing it into a finished embedded system. Depending on the design, integration may also require a compatible carrier board, sensors or cameras, networking hardware, software, and engineering support. NVIDIA documents partner offerings across these categories, but that does not establish compatibility or present availability for a particular design. Check the selected hardware’s compatibility information and design documentation before purchasing components.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
- It establishes NVIDIA’s stated performance and power specifications for named configurations and dates, not independently measured performance for every application.
- It records a product timeline: the November 2021 announcement targeted Q1 2022 availability, and NVIDIA said the 32GB production module was available to order in August 2022. Neither statement confirms current inventory, pricing, or availability in a particular region.
- It identifies a broader integration ecosystem that includes carrier boards, sensors, networking, software, and design services. Individual compatibility and availability still need to be checked against the intended system.
