Options-market pricing reported by CNBC on October 5, 2026, implied roughly a 50% chance Nvidia would reach a $6 trillion market capitalization by the end of October. The estimate was about 13% for that week and 67% by December 18. These were dated market-implied readings, not promises or settled forecasts.
What timing did options pricing imply for Nvidia’s $6 trillion valuation?
CNBC reported that Nvidia’s market value stood just under $5.7 trillion after a 1.3% rise on the Friday before its October 5, 2026 report. Based on market-maker pricing of Nvidia options, the report gave these estimates for reaching the stated market-cap thresholds:
| Market-cap threshold | Time horizon | Reported market-implied estimate |
|---|---|---|
| $6 trillion | That week | About 13% |
| $6 trillion | By October 30, 2026 | About 50% |
| $6 trillion | By December 18, 2026 | About 67% |
| $7 trillion | By November 20, 2026 | About one in sixteen; CNBC said this threshold corresponded to $248 per share using the then-current share count |
These figures are CNBC’s account of a particular market snapshot, not calculations independently reproducible from the article. The report linked the estimates to market-maker pricing of deltas on options expiring that week and on October 30, but did not identify the precise contracts or explain the conversion method. What do options-derived odds mean?
Delta is a theoretical estimate of how much an option’s premium may change for a one-unit move in the underlying stock, all else equal. Some traders also use delta as a rough proxy for the chance that an option will finish in the money. The Options Industry Council notes that delta changes as the stock price, time to expiration, and implied volatility change, so it is not a fixed probability. - A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
That distinction matters here: a delta-based estimate associated with a market-cap threshold is not a guarantee that Nvidia will reach that value by a particular date. It reflects option-market pricing and the assumptions behind the reported calculation. CNBC’s report also cautioned that a move of comparable size in the opposite direction was possible.
What else did the report say about options positioning?
CNBC described higher implied volatility for some Nvidia calls than for equivalent puts, a pattern it called call skew and characterized as evidence of an upside-hedging bias. That describes how options were priced; it does not establish that the stock was more likely to rise or verify a directional forecast.

The report also said Nvidia represented about 13% of the Nasdaq-100 and 8% of the S&P 500 at the time. Those are October 2026 snapshot figures, not current index weights.
Why the estimates cannot be independently checked from the report
To recreate the threshold estimates, a reader would need details the report did not state: the exact options contracts, timestamped chain prices, the market-maker source, and the method used to translate option pricing into chances of reaching a market-cap level. The $248 per-share figure for $7 trillion was tied to the share count at that time; changes in shares outstanding would change the share price associated with a given market capitalization.

What options buyers should keep in mind
These market estimates are not a recommendation to trade Nvidia options. Options involve leverage and can result in a total loss of the amount paid: the Options Industry Council notes that an option buyer can lose the entire premium if the contract expires worthless.
