The Information reported on October 9, 2026, that Nvidia plans to invest in d-Matrix, but the reported terms were not immediately clear and the sources reviewed here do not establish that a deal has closed. Separately, the companies publicly announced a multi-year plan to connect d-Matrix’s Raptor inference chips to Nvidia’s rack infrastructure. The partnership is confirmed; the investment remains attributed reporting.

Is Nvidia investing in d-Matrix?

Investing.com reported on October 9, 2026, citing The Information, that Nvidia plans to invest in d-Matrix. The summary says the report relied on three people familiar with the deal, whose identities were not disclosed there. It said financial terms were not immediately clear.

That wording matters: the report describes a plan, not a confirmed closing. The cited coverage does not establish an investment amount, valuation, or formal announcement by either company.

What is Nvidia’s deal with d-Matrix?

The separately confirmed development is a multi-year product roadmap announced by d-Matrix and Nvidia on September 10, 2026. d-Matrix plans to integrate its next-generation Raptor inference XPUs with Nvidia’s MGX rack architecture using NVLink Fusion. The companies describe a planned integration, not completed deployment.

waveshare Hailo-8 M.2 AI Accelerator Module, Compatible with Raspberry Pi 5, Supports Linux/Windows Systems, Based On The 26TOPS Hailo-8 AI Processor, Module Only
  • ✅Powered by 26 Tera-Operations Per Second (TOPS) Hailo-8 AI Processor. 2.5W typical power consumption
  • ✅Scalable, enabling simultaneous processing of multi-streams & multi-models
  • ✅Enabling real-time, low latency and high-efficiency AI inferencing on the edge devices
  • ✅Supports TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, Keras, Pytorch frameworks
  • ✅Supports Linux and Windows. Supports the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C

The announced MGX configuration includes Nvidia Vera CPUs, NVLink switches, BlueField-4 DPUs, ConnectX-9 SuperNICs, and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking. d-Matrix also named Astera Labs as a connectivity partner. Nvidia presents NVLink Fusion as a way to extend its scale-up networking and rack architecture to third-party custom XPUs and CPUs, allowing partners to use that infrastructure while developing their own processors. Nvidia’s explanation of NVLink Fusion describes its view of that platform strategy.

One strategic implication is that Nvidia can bring specialized chips into systems built around its own rack-scale infrastructure. That is an interpretation of the announced architecture, not a stated reason for the reported investment. The partnership also does not mean Nvidia has stopped competing with other chipmakers.

MX3 M.2 AI Accelerator
  • High-Performance AI Processing: The MX3 is designed to handle the most demanding AI computer vision workloads, delivering exceptional performance and efficiency.
  • Flexible Integration: The MX3 can be easily integrated into your existing systems via its M.2 M-key form factor and support for Linux operating systems.
  • Energy Efficient: The MX3 is designed to provide high performance while minimizing power consumption.
  • Comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK): The MX3 is supported by a comprehensive SDK that simplifies development and deployment.
  • Hardware compatability: The MX3 is compatible with the PCI-SIG M.2 M-key 2280 Specification. It can be used with the Raspberry Pi 5 with a M-key 2280 HAT.

What does d-Matrix make?

d-Matrix develops inference XPUs—specialized processors intended to run trained AI models. The Raptor chips in the announcement are its next-generation inference products. The companies describe them as complementary to GPUs for certain inference workloads, rather than as a general replacement for Nvidia GPUs.

How the planned system divides inference work

d-Matrix identifies latency-sensitive coding assistants, real-time chatbots, and voice agents as target uses. In one company-described disaggregated coding workload, GPUs handle the compute-intensive prefill phase, which processes the prompt, while d-Matrix XPUs accelerate decode, the phase that generates the response token by token. This is a description of the intended division of labor, not an independently measured performance result.

Whether such a design improves latency, throughput, energy use, or cost depends on the workload and the full system. The partnership announcement does not provide independent benchmarks or comparative performance statistics for those measures.

What is NVLink Fusion?

NVLink Fusion is Nvidia’s scale-up interconnect and rack-integration approach for connecting custom third-party processors within Nvidia infrastructure. In the d-Matrix roadmap, it is the link between Raptor XPUs and the broader MGX rack system—not a claim that the XPU itself is made by Nvidia.

When will Nvidia and d-Matrix’s AI system be available?

d-Matrix said it expects initial availability of Raptor XPUs integrated into Nvidia MGX racks in Q4 2027. That is a company forecast, not evidence that the integrated system is available now or has already been deployed by customers.
