The exact model identity is the key caveat: a reseller lists the MMS1X00-N5400 as a 400Gbps, 1310nm QSFP112 optic, but the NVIDIA documents available here specify a different model, MMS1X00-NS400, ordering number 980-9I068-00NM00. NVIDIA’s published NS400 specifications should not be assumed to apply to N5400.
What is the MMS1X00-N5400?
A reseller listing is the source for the exact MMS1X00-N5400 name and describes it as a 400Gbps QSFP112 optic operating at 1310nm. That listing also claims compatibility with ConnectX-8 and Spectrum-X/GB300 systems. These are reseller claims; the NVIDIA product documents available for this quick look do not confirm the N5400 model, its ordering number, its specifications, or those compatibility claims. Reseller listing
NVIDIA’s official documents instead identify the closely named MMS1X00-NS400, part number 980-9I068-00NM00. The names are not interchangeable on the evidence available: no official source here maps N5400 to NS400 or establishes that they are the same optic. How far can the optic reach?
NVIDIA’s NS400 overview includes a 500-meter crossover-cable passage, but also describes a specific use case in which each cable can link to the optic up to 100 meters. Those statements apply in different contexts; neither should be generalized into a guaranteed reach for every link. Confirm the distance supported by the complete end-to-end configuration and current platform documentation. NVIDIA NS400 overview
What equipment and cable should you verify?
NVIDIA’s NS400 overview discusses adapter and DPU connections involving ConnectX-7 and BlueField-3 QSFP112 devices, and a twin-port 2x400G OSFP transceiver in Quantum-2 InfiniBand or Spectrum-4 Ethernet switches. It also says QSFP112 ports are not for use in switches and that both fibers linked to the twin-port transceiver must be the same type. These are NS400-specific documented contexts, not confirmation of N5400 compatibility. NVIDIA NS400 overview

A reasonable category-level cable search for the documented NS400 interface is a single-mode MPO-12/APC crossover fiber cable. This is not a confirmed N5400 accessory or a guarantee that any cable in that category will work. NVIDIA’s parts information discusses crossover fiber cables in relevant QSFP112 and adapter contexts. - Match the host and far-end port form factors, and verify that the platform and firmware support the specific optic.
- Confirm that both endpoints support the intended Ethernet or InfiniBand configuration.
- Check single-mode fiber, connector format and polish, MPO cable polarity, connector gender, and endpoint layout.
- Validate the required distance for the actual link rather than relying on a headline reach figure.
- For the documented NS400 APC interface, NVIDIA says the connector shell is green and APC is not compatible with aqua UPC. Do not assume the same interface for N5400 without confirmation.
What to confirm before ordering
- Ask the seller or manufacturer to confirm the full printed model and NVIDIA ordering number. The official NVIDIA records cited here name NS400 / 980-9I068-00NM00, not N5400. NVIDIA product documentation · NVIDIA compatibility listing
- Get confirmation for the intended host, switch or DPU, firmware, and link protocol. A reseller’s ConnectX-8 or Spectrum-X/GB300 compatibility statement is not substantiated by the NVIDIA documents cited here. Reseller listing
- Verify the cable’s connector polish and type, polarity, gender, fiber type, and supported distance with both endpoints. Do not buy solely on the phrase “400G QSFP112.”
- If the candidate is actually NS400, check the current NVIDIA documentation for the target platform and use case; NVIDIA’s separate compatibility documents use status labels such as P-Rel and Prototype in their respective versions, not a single universal status. NVIDIA compatibility listing
