A December 30, 2022 report by HotHardware said NVIDIA France had briefly displayed specifications and a performance chart for the then-unannounced GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The reported chart claimed gains of roughly 1.75x to 3.5x over the RTX 3080 12GB in three games, but it was a vendor comparison relayed by HotHardware—not an independent benchmark. NVIDIA officially announced the card on January 3, 2023, confirming its core specifications and setting a historical launch price of $799.
What the reported leak showed
HotHardware’s Paul Lilly reported that NVIDIA France had displayed an RTX 4070 Ti specification sheet and performance comparison. The article said that @momomo_us captured screenshots of the material. It also mentioned a separate, earlier clue: an Omniverse View recommendation for the card that was later removed. These are HotHardware’s accounts of the leak; the original screenshots are not independently authenticated here. Read HotHardware’s December 30, 2022 report.

The reported specification chart listed:
- 7,680 CUDA cores
- 12GB of GDDR6X memory
- A 2.61GHz boost clock
- Display support up to 4K at 240Hz or 8K at 60Hz with DSC
NVIDIA’s January 2023 launch announcement later confirmed the 7,680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X. NVIDIA’s current comparison page lists the RTX 4070 Ti’s boost clock as 2.61GHz. NVIDIA’s January 3, 2023 announcement and NVIDIA’s graphics-card comparison page provide the later official specifications.

According to HotHardware, NVIDIA’s chart compared the RTX 4070 Ti with the RTX 3080 12GB in three games:
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-Fan Tech Built to Endure - Triple 90mm axial fans feature refined blades for up to 15% more airflow, counter-rotation to cut turbulence, and durable dual-ball bearings. Stealth Mode stops fans at low temps for silent operation, boosting card longevity and performance.
- Masterfully Crafted Cooling - Advanced vapor chamber and ultra-dense heatsink rapidly pull heat from the GPU, while an open aluminum backplate boosts airflow and ventilation, resulting in lower temperatures for stronger performance and stability in demanding workloads.
- Epic-X ARGB Lighting 2.0 - Craft your command center with Epic-X ARGB lighting. Fully customizable LEDs illuminate your graphics card, turning your setup into a radiant centerpiece and making your gaming space a true reflection of your style.
- VelocityX Software - Gain full control over your PNY graphics card to maximize its performance and Epic-X ARGB lighting. Fine-tune core and memory clocks, dial in custom fan curves, and monitor real-time temperatures and speeds, all from one intuitive interface. Save up to five profiles for instant recall.
- NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture - The Ultimate Platform for Gamers and Creators. Do it all with 5th-Gen Tensor cores for Max AI performance, new streaming multiprocessors that are optimized for neural shaders, and 4th-Gen Ray Tracing cores built for Mega Geometry.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator
- Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
- Cyberpunk 2077
The reported test conditions were 2560×1440 resolution, each game’s highest settings, DLSS Quality mode, an Intel Core i9-12900K, 32GB of RAM, and Windows 11. Under those conditions, the chart showed approximately 1.75x to 3.5x performance across the three titles. HotHardware’s report does not establish a result for every game or configuration, and the figures should not be read as a universal performance multiplier. They were pre-release NVIDIA chart claims, not independent test results.
NVIDIA made other performance claims in its January 3 launch announcement, but they describe different comparisons. The company said the RTX 4070 Ti was faster than the RTX 3090 Ti at nearly half the power. It also described a “12x relative performance upgrade” over the GTX 1080 Ti with DLSS 3. That DLSS 3 claim uses a different GPU baseline and is not a continuation of the leaked RTX 3080 12GB chart.
Why the RTX 4070 Ti had an RTX 4080 connection
In September 2022, NVIDIA announced an RTX 4080 12GB with 7,680 CUDA cores, GDDR6X memory, and a starting price of $899. The RTX 4070 Ti announcement listed the same CUDA-core count and 12GB GDDR6X capacity, with a $799 starting price. The matching headline specifications are documented; the exact reasoning behind the later name is not established by those NVIDIA announcements.

HotHardware described rebadging as the general contemporary assumption. It is best understood as an inference based on the specification overlap, not as a confirmed explanation from NVIDIA. See the September 20, 2022 RTX 40 Series announcement alongside the later RTX 4070 Ti launch announcement.

NVIDIA officially introduced the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti on January 3, 2023. Its announcement said: “Introducing the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, available January 5th, starting at $799.” Both the January 5 availability date and $799 starting price refer to the card’s original launch, not current retail offers.
NVIDIA named ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, GIGABYTE, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY, and ZOTAC among the add-in-board providers for the launch. That list does not mean every provider offered an identical design or that its cards remain available today. NVIDIA’s CES 2023 announcement names the providers.
What to take from the leak today
The leak is useful as a record of what NVIDIA reportedly showed shortly before launch, especially because the announced core count and memory capacity matched the later official specifications. Its game chart is narrower: it covers three named games, one 1440p setup, DLSS Quality, and a specific test system. It does not establish how the card compares with current GPUs, what a used RTX 4070 Ti is worth, or what a specific board costs now.
For a buying decision, compare independent benchmarks that use the same games, resolution, settings, and upscaling mode. Also check the exact board’s memory, cooling, power requirements, and current price; the leaked chart alone cannot answer those questions.
