ComfyUI_NAIDGenerator can generate with NovelAI V5 model IDs nai-diffusion-5-full and nai-diffusion-5-curated, according to a developer’s test. An “Error fetching Anlas” 400 may be a separate balance-lookup problem: that report traced it to a request sent to an older host and found a different response shape at the replacement host. A successful image-generation request does not prove the balance tracker is working, or vice versa.

First identify which request is failing

Read the error and the ComfyUI console output to distinguish the balance check from image generation. The reported tracker error was Failed to fetch Anlas balance: 400 Client Error: Bad Request. In the same report, both V5 model IDs generated images successfully even though the balance request returned 400.

Do not assume every 400 has this cause. The report describes a separate, unresolved generation 400 associated with a trial account and does not establish that it shares the balance endpoint issue.

Check the V5 model IDs and choose between them

The ComfyUI_NAIDGenerator README lists both V5 IDs among the available V4+ models and describes selecting a model through the GenerateNAID node’s ModelOption. Although the README initially cautioned that the V5 identifiers had not been independently confirmed against the live API, developer Ilan Kim later reported successful requests for both.

Model NovelAI’s description and guidance Prompt token limit on the model page Reported ComfyUI test configuration
nai-diffusion-5-full More comprehensive and less curated training set; NovelAI suggests trying it when Curated does not produce a specific desired result. Up to approximately 1,471 effective tokens over the base prompt. 832×1216; one test reported by Ilan Kim.
nai-diffusion-5-curated Smaller set of cleaner, more focused images; described by NovelAI as a general-use choice. Up to approximately 703 effective tokens over the base prompt. 512×768; one test reported by Ilan Kim.

The token figures and model descriptions are from NovelAI’s Image Models documentation. The test configurations are one developer’s observations, not recommended or maximum dimensions. In that test, both model IDs returned HTTP 200 and produced PNGs with source metadata identifying NovelAI Diffusion V5. The reported times were 4.1 seconds for Full and 1.6 seconds for Curated; these timings describe that configuration only.

What the reported Anlas 400 fix involved

In a technical report published September 13, 2026 and edited September 30, Ilan Kim traced the balance error to the extension’s _get_user_data request. The code reportedly queried https://api.novelai.net/user/data; an authenticated comparison returned 400 from that host and 200 from https://image.novelai.net/user/data.

The report says changing only the host was insufficient for balance handling. In its test, subscription.trainingStepsLeft was an object containing fixedTrainingStepsLeft and purchasedTrainingSteps, rather than a single integer. Code that displays the balance or calculates usage by subtracting before-and-after values therefore needs to account for that structure.

This endpoint diagnosis and response-shape observation come from one developer’s test, not an official NovelAI API contract. If you maintain or patch the extension, verify the current code and response rather than assuming those implementation details are guaranteed to remain unchanged. The report’s code test used ComfyUI 0.35.0 and ComfyUI_NAIDGenerator commit 52da75a (package version 1.0.9).

Troubleshoot in this order

  1. Separate generation from balance tracking. Note whether the failing operation is the Anlas Tracker/user-data lookup or the GenerateNAID image request. A balance lookup failure alone does not show that either V5 model is unavailable.
  2. Check the extension revision. Compare your installed ComfyUI_NAIDGenerator version or commit with the code you intend to run; the reported test used commit 52da75a, package version 1.0.9. Newer or older revisions may behave differently.
  3. If you are diagnosing the reported balance error, inspect both host and parsing logic. The report’s observed fix changed the user-data host to image.novelai.net and handled the object-shaped training-step balance. Treat this as a reported implementation fix, not an officially verified endpoint guarantee.
  4. If image generation still returns 400, investigate it independently. The report did not reproduce the separate trial-account failure or establish its cause. It also did not rerun a V4.5 regression test after the balance-code change, so it cannot establish that the change has no effect on older models.
  5. Allow sufficient time for the response. The extension README warns that a timeout set too short may prevent the image from being received even if Anlas is charged. A timeout-related missing image is distinct from an Anlas balance 400.

Understand access and the limits of cost claims

NovelAI’s Image Models documentation says V5 models are available to all subscribing tiers and identifies V5 as its first model generation with a usage limit on free Opus generations. Access and usage therefore depend on account tier and the applicable limits; do not infer that V5 generation is universally free or that one reported charge applies to every account.

Ilan Kim reported a result of 0 Anlas for one Normal-size 832×1216 image at 28 steps on an Opus account. That is one account-and-configuration observation, not a general price or recurring allowance. NovelAI’s model page also says V5 was trained in-house using 268,000 B200 GPU-hours; that is the company’s own statement, not an independent measurement.
