Novamira connects an MCP-compatible AI client directly to a WordPress site and can give it access to PHP execution, WP-CLI, database queries, and file operations. That makes it more than a content assistant: it can make consequential changes inside the WordPress environment. Novamira recommends using it on development or staging sites and keeping backups. For a production site, the central question is whether you are prepared to grant that breadth of access—not just whether the connection works.
What is Novamira?
Novamira is an open-source WordPress plugin and MCP server. MCP lets a compatible AI client discover and invoke capabilities exposed by another application. Novamira says it uses WordPress’s Abilities API and the MCP Adapter to make site capabilities available to the connected client. The project identifies its license as AGPL-3.0-or-later. Novamira’s repository and official website describe the connection as direct rather than routed through a Novamira-hosted proxy.
The practical distinction is that the agent can work within the WordPress installation, rather than only advising you or drafting text outside it. What it can do depends on the abilities you enable and the tools made available by the client.

Novamira’s materials describe capabilities that include executing PHP in the WordPress runtime, running WP-CLI commands, querying the database, and inspecting or editing files. They also describe workflows for native Block Editor content and media. These are vendor and project claims; they have not been independently verified here for every feature or client.

Novamira’s security documentation emphasizes the scope of PHP access: “Your AI runs PHP inside your WordPress process.” An authenticated agent can therefore reach the WordPress environment, database, loaded plugins, and PHP runtime. This is powerful for development work, but the access is broad enough that a mistaken or unsafe instruction can have real effects on the site.
Is Novamira safe to use on a live WordPress site?
Novamira’s own guidance recommends development and staging environments, with backups. Its live-site guidance warns that code, configuration, and database changes made through an agent are real changes. Treat the connection as privileged access to the site, not as a read-only assistant or a reversible preview. The security documentation and live-site guidance set out those cautions.

The PHP sandbox is not a security boundary
The PHP file sandbox is described as a guardrail for newly created PHP files, not a containment layer for arbitrary PHP execution. The documentation says PHP can bypass the sandbox and use PHP’s native filesystem access; restrictions on file abilities do not constrain that native access. The documented recovery assistance for fatal errors in sandbox files is not a rollback mechanism. Do not rely on the sandbox to prevent arbitrary code execution or to restore previous site state.

Novamira is a more plausible fit for developers or technical site owners working on a staging or development copy, who understand the consequences of PHP, database, and filesystem changes and can restore from backups. It is a poor fit for anyone who expects a narrow content-only tool, cannot tolerate site changes, or cannot maintain a separate test environment and recovery plan.

What does setup require?
The project lists the following requirements. Check the current repository instructions before installing because minimum versions and compatibility can change.
- WordPress 6.9 or later.
- PHP 8.0 or later.
- A WordPress administrator account.
- HTTPS for remote connections; local development environments are an exception.
- An MCP-compatible client or a terminal-based agent using Novamira CLI.
Installation and connection
- Download the release ZIP from the project, then install and activate the plugin in WordPress. The repository warns that GitHub’s automatically generated source archive omits Composer dependencies needed by the MCP server; use the release ZIP instead.
- In Novamira’s configuration screen, enable AI Abilities. The vendor says abilities are off by default and require an administrator.
- Connect your chosen AI client using Novamira’s setup prompt workflow or its manual configuration instructions. The getting-started guide describes the MCP connection and ability discovery.
- For remote access, use HTTPS and configure the supported authentication method, OAuth or a WordPress Application Password. If Application Password authentication fails, check whether a security plugin has disabled Application Passwords; Novamira notes that this can interfere with a connection using that method. Which AI clients and editions are supported?
Novamira lists compatibility with clients including Claude, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, and VS Code with GitHub Copilot, as well as other MCP-compatible clients. Its website lists additional options. These are the project’s compatibility claims; the materials available for this review do not establish that every client or workflow has been independently tested. The project describes a free core plugin. Novamira Pro is described as adding specialized tools, memory between sessions, and guided skills. The website advertises Pro from €49 per year; that is a vendor-listed starting price, and pricing or packaging may change. Confirm current terms on the official website before deciding whether those additions justify the cost.
How should you decide whether to use Novamira?
Assess the specific site and workflow rather than relying on a general claim that an MCP connection is safe or compatible.
- Environment: Can you use a staging or development site instead of production, and do you have backups you can restore?
- Access: Are PHP execution, database access, and file operations appropriate for the tasks you want the agent to perform?
- Prerequisites: Does the WordPress and PHP installation meet Novamira’s stated minimums, and can you use an administrator account?
- Connection: Does your chosen MCP client have current setup instructions, and will HTTPS and your authentication method work in your environment?
- Workflow value: Do you need direct site operations, or would drafting and advice without privileged access meet your needs? If considering Pro, decide whether its described tools, session memory, and skills matter to your work.
Verdict
Novamira’s appeal is also its main risk: it gives an AI client a route to work inside WordPress, including through PHP, the database, and files. The project documents a clear setup path and substantial capabilities, but its security, compatibility, and performance claims have not been independently established here. Consider it when you need agent-driven development on a controlled staging environment and can manage the access responsibly. If you need a production-safe, narrowly scoped content assistant, the documented access model is broader than that use case calls for.
