The Nothing Phone (4a) stands out on listed screen resolution and camera reach: it has a 2720 × 1224 display and a 50MP periscope camera. The Samsung Galaxy A27 5G counters with expandable storage, an OIS-equipped main camera and a longer stated Android and One UI upgrade horizon. There is no dependable like-for-like price gap in the available figures, so the better value depends on your local price and priorities.

These are listed specifications, not a matched lab comparison. Resolution, megapixels, processor names, battery capacity and charging wattage do not by themselves establish which phone takes better photos, runs games faster, lasts longer or charges faster in real use.

How do their screens compare?
The Phone (4a) has the higher stated resolution: 2720 × 1224 on a 6.78-inch panel, compared with the A27 5G’s 1080 × 2340 FHD+ resolution on a 6.7-inch panel. Both are listed as AMOLED-class displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz. Nothing is the clearer specification-sheet choice if resolution is your priority, but the figures alone do not establish a difference in brightness, color accuracy or everyday viewing quality.

Which phone has the more useful camera setup?
Nothing Phone (4a): periscope zoom
Nothing lists a three-camera rear system with a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP periscope camera. TechRadar reports 3.5× optical zoom for the periscope lens. That gives the Phone (4a) a dedicated long-range camera role that the Samsung’s listed camera array does not have.
Samsung Galaxy A27 5G: optical stabilization and macro
Samsung specifies a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. OIS is a concrete feature of the main camera; the macro lens provides a separate close-up option.
The Phone (4a) has a higher-resolution front camera on paper—32MP versus Samsung’s 12MP—but megapixel count does not settle selfie quality. Without matched testing of these exact phones, the hardware descriptions are a more reliable basis for choosing than a claim that one produces better photos overall.

Which offers better performance?
Nothing lists the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and RAM options up to 12GB. Samsung lists the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and configurations with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Those specifications show that Nothing has the higher listed RAM ceiling, but no same-lab benchmark comparison is established here. Chip and RAM names alone are not enough to promise a gaming or general-speed winner.
Does Samsung’s expandable storage matter?
Samsung lists Galaxy A27 5G configurations with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage and microSD support up to 2TB. A card is sold separately, and actual availability or support can depend on the regional model. This can be useful for a large offline collection of photos, video or music.
TechRadar lists the Phone (4a) with 128GB or 256GB of storage and does not list microSD expansion. If you need more room on that phone, choose an internal-storage tier that fits your needs rather than assuming it can be expanded later.
Software support: years versus upgrade generations
Samsung’s June 25, 2026 announcement promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, plus up to six years of security updates from the initial global launch date. Samsung also notes that availability and timing may vary. The phrase “up to six generations” describes major OS and interface upgrades; it is not the same measure as a fixed number of years.
TechRadar reports that Nothing promises three years of OS updates and six years of security updates for the Phone (4a). On the published commitments cited here, Samsung offers the longer stated OS-upgrade horizon, while both phones are associated with six years of security support. These are stated support policies, not independent verification of future delivery.

Nothing lists a 5,080mAh battery and 50W wired charging; Samsung states a 5,000mAh typical battery and 25W fast charging. The capacities are close, but they are not runtime results. Charging performance depends on conditions and the compatible charger; wattage specifications alone do not establish a real-world charging-time comparison. TechRadar’s reviewer’s one-day-use observation applies to that reviewer’s Phone (4a), not to every user or a direct comparison with the Samsung.
Samsung lists the A27 5G at 200g and 7.8mm thick; TechRadar lists the Phone (4a) at 204.5g and 8.6mm. Samsung India’s product page states IP64 protection and Gorilla Glass Victus+. Check the precise regional variant and warranty terms, and do not interpret an IP rating as permission to submerge a phone.
Price difference: compare the same market and configuration
Nothing’s UK storefront showed £379 for a selected 8GB/128GB Phone (4a) variant when checked. Separately, TechRadar reported UK launch prices of £349, £379 and £399 across Phone (4a) configurations, and Australian launch prices of AU$649, AU$749 and AU$849. Those review-reported figures are launch prices, not guarantees of current retail pricing.

Quick Recap
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) if the higher listed screen resolution, periscope zoom hardware or 12GB RAM option matters most to you.
- Choose the Galaxy A27 5G if you want microSD expansion, a main camera with OIS, or Samsung’s stated up-to-six-generation OS and One UI upgrade commitment.
- Compare both locally before buying if value is the deciding factor: use the same storage tier, seller conditions and warranty when checking prices.
- Seek matched independent tests if camera image quality, gaming performance or battery endurance is your deciding factor; the listed specifications do not settle those questions.
