For most buyers under ₹35,000, the OnePlus Nord 5 is the better all-round buy if you prioritize speed, gaming, battery capacity, fast charging, or a longer stated Android-upgrade commitment. Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) instead if you want a rear telephoto camera, Nothing’s distinctive design, or Nothing OS. At launch, both phones’ 8GB/128GB base versions were reported at ₹31,999 in India; current sale prices and stock have not been verified.
What do you get for under ₹35,000?
The launch-price comparison published by 91mobiles on 15 March 2026 puts both phones’ 8GB/128GB base configurations at ₹31,999 and both brands’ middle configurations at ₹34,999. These are launch prices, not confirmed current retail prices, so check the exact variant and live listing before buying.
| Configuration | Nothing Phone (4a) | OnePlus Nord 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Base, reported launch price | 8GB RAM / 128GB storage — ₹31,999 (91mobiles, 15 March 2026) | 8GB RAM / 128GB storage — ₹31,999 (91mobiles, 15 March 2026) |
| Middle, reported launch price | ₹34,999; 91mobiles lists 8GB RAM | ₹34,999; 91mobiles lists 12GB RAM |
| Top, reported launch price | ₹37,999; up to 256GB storage | ₹37,999; up to 512GB storage |
The middle tiers fit the budget by launch price, but they are not equivalent: the Nord 5 version has more RAM, and the Nord 5 range offers a higher maximum storage option. The comparison does not establish current availability or sale pricing. 91mobiles’ comparison reports the configurations and launch prices. Mint also reported the Phone (4a)’s starting price as ₹31,999 in its 5 March 2026 launch coverage.

Which phone is faster for gaming and everyday use?
Nord 5 has the performance advantage
The Nord 5 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the Phone (4a) uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. In 91mobiles’ 2026 comparison testing, the Nord 5 scored 1,481,616 on AnTuTu versus 1,176,492 for the Phone (4a). The same comparison reported steadier sustained gaming and a smaller average temperature rise on the Nord 5 in its tests. These are outlet-specific results, not a promise that every game, setting, or user will see the same difference.

For demanding games, heavier multitasking, or simply more performance headroom, the Nord 5 is the safer choice. OnePlus describes its chipset as a Snapdragon 8-series platform and promotes high-frame-rate gaming; those are manufacturer claims, while the benchmark and sustained-use observations above come from 91mobiles. See OnePlus’ Nord 5 specifications and the 91mobiles comparison.
Which camera setup is more useful?
Phone (4a) gives you a rear telephoto camera
Nothing’s rear camera setup combines a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP telephoto camera. Mint’s launch report describes the telephoto camera as offering 3.5x optical zoom; Nothing’s product page lists digital zoom up to 70x. The telephoto lens makes the Phone (4a) the more versatile option when you want a dedicated rear camera for zoomed-in subjects. It does not establish that every photo from the Phone (4a) will be better: image quality depends on the scene, lighting, and distance, particularly at high digital zoom.
Nord 5 has the higher-resolution selfie camera
The Nord 5 pairs a 50MP main camera and 8MP ultra-wide with a 50MP front camera. The Phone (4a)’s front camera is 32MP. That gives the Nord 5 the higher front-camera resolution on paper, while the Phone (4a)’s distinguishing camera feature is its rear telephoto lens. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better-looking selfies or photos. Details are listed by Nothing, Mint, and the 91mobiles camera comparison.
How do the displays and designs compare?
91mobiles reports an adaptive 120Hz display for the Phone (4a) and a 144Hz display for the Nord 5. The Nord 5 therefore has the higher stated refresh rate, which may appeal if you value smoother supported motion. The comparison describes the Phone (4a) as brighter at peak, but peak brightness figures do not directly predict brightness in typical outdoor use.

The design choice is more subjective: the Phone (4a) has Nothing’s transparent styling and Glyph Bar, while the Nord 5 takes a more restrained approach. The same comparison lists IP64 for the Phone (4a) and IP65 for the Nord 5. Neither rating should be read as permission to submerge a phone. The display and ingress ratings are from 91mobiles’ comparison; Mint also describes the Phone (4a)’s design in its launch report.
Which lasts longer and charges faster?
Nord 5 has the larger battery and faster rated charging
The Nord 5 has a 6,800mAh battery and 80W charging according to OnePlus. The Phone (4a)’s India battery is 5,400mAh, and Mint reports 50W wired charging. Those capacity and charging figures favor the Nord 5 on paper, but neither determines exactly how long a particular person’s phone will last or how quickly it will charge in every situation.
Review endurance depends on test conditions
In 91mobiles’ reviewed use, the Nord 5 delivered approximately six hours of screen-on time and the Phone (4a) around five hours. These are review observations, not guaranteed daily runtimes; the same comparison’s PCMark result did not show a simple relationship between battery capacity and endurance. OnePlus notes that actual battery life can be affected by network conditions, apps and features, call and message frequency, recharge count, usage habits, device age, and settings.

Which phone offers the stronger software support commitment?
The Phone (4a) is identified by Nothing support as running Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16. OnePlus promises four Android version upgrades and six years of security updates for the Nord 5. 91mobiles reports a commitment of three major OS updates and six years of security support for the Phone (4a). These are stated support commitments, not guarantees of exact delivery dates for each future update; the timelines run from launch.
Choose the Nord 5 if the extra stated Android version upgrade matters most. Choose the Phone (4a) if you prefer Nothing OS. See Nothing’s Phone (4a) OS support information, OnePlus’ Nord 5 page, and 91mobiles’ support comparison.
Which should you buy?
Buy the OnePlus Nord 5 if
- You want stronger performance headroom or play demanding games.
- You value the larger stated battery, faster rated charging, or higher refresh rate.
- You want the longer stated commitment to Android version upgrades.
- You need the option of up to 512GB storage in the range.
Buy the Nothing Phone (4a) if
- A dedicated rear telephoto camera matters more to you than the Nord 5’s performance advantage.
- You prefer the transparent design, Glyph Bar, or Nothing OS.
- You are comparing the base 8GB/128GB versions at similar live prices and prefer its camera features.
At the reported launch prices, either base model was within budget, and the ₹34,999 middle tier also fit. Because current retail pricing was not verified, compare the exact India variant and price available to you rather than assuming the launch-price relationship still holds.
