The Motorola Edge 70 Pro leads on several headline specifications: its display is rated at 144Hz, it has a larger stated battery, supports faster wired and wireless charging, and carries higher listed water-and-dust protection ratings. The Nothing Phone (4a) has a lower cited European starting MSRP. Which is the better buy depends on your priorities and, especially, the price of the same storage tier in your country.

Where the Motorola Edge 70 Pro has the spec advantage

Display smoothness and stated brightness

Motorola lists a 144Hz refresh rate against the Nothing’s 120Hz, as well as a higher peak-brightness figure. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion appear smoother, but the published numbers alone do not establish which phone is easier to read in every lighting condition or how long either sustains peak brightness.

Battery capacity and charging options

The Edge 70 Pro’s listed 6,500mAh capacity is larger than TechRadar’s 5,080mAh figure for the Phone (4a). Motorola also lists 90W wired and 15W wireless charging; TechRadar’s Nothing specification table lists 50W wired charging and no wireless charging. Capacity does not by itself predict measured battery life, and charging performance depends on factors beyond the wattage printed in a specification.

Camera hardware and protection ratings

Both phones list a periscope telephoto camera with 3.5× optical zoom. Motorola adds a 50MP ultrawide and a macro camera to its listed setup, while TechRadar lists an 8MP ultrawide for Nothing. These resolutions and camera counts describe hardware, not comparative photo quality. Motorola also lists IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD-810H, compared with the Nothing’s IP64 listing. Those ratings do not make either phone damage-proof; follow the manufacturers’ care guidance and do not treat a rating as a reason to deliberately expose a phone to water or dust.

What the Nothing Phone (4a) offers

The Phone (4a) pairs a 6.78-inch, 120Hz AMOLED display with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and a rear camera system that includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP periscope telephoto. It is the lower-priced option in the cited European MSRP snapshots, and its software is Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16, according to TechRadar.

There is a discrepancy in published battery figures: TechRadar lists 5,080mAh, while Gadgets 360 lists 5,400mAh. The 5,080mAh figure is used in the comparison table because it appears in the cited detailed review, but buyers should check the specification page for their regional model before relying on a precise capacity figure.

Price difference: compare the same country and configuration

PhoneArena’s European MSRP entries show the Nothing Phone (4a) starting below the Motorola Edge 70 Pro, but the listed configurations are not identical at every price point. These are database-listed MSRP figures, not current checkout prices.

Phone and configuration PhoneArena European MSRP snapshot
Nothing Phone (4a), 8GB/128GB €349
Nothing Phone (4a), 8GB/256GB €389
Nothing Phone (4a), 12GB/256GB €429
Motorola Edge 70 Pro, 8GB/256GB €540
Motorola Edge 70 Pro, 12GB/512GB €660

For India, a 91mobiles search-result capture showed the Phone 4a at ₹35,949 on Amazon and the Edge 70 Pro 5G at ₹39,999 on Flipkart. These are retailer snapshots rather than verified live offers: the capture does not establish the price date, seller, discount conditions or equivalent RAM and storage tiers. The page also displays a third device alongside the two named phones, so check the product and configuration carefully rather than assuming every column refers to one of these models. Motorola says the Edge 70 Pro will roll out in selected countries and regions across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, with local teams handling price and availability. There is no single global price difference that applies to every market.

Which phone should you buy?

Choose the Motorola Edge 70 Pro if

  • You prioritize a 144Hz display and Motorola’s higher stated peak-brightness figure.
  • You want the larger listed battery capacity, faster listed wired charging or wireless charging.
  • You value the listed 50MP ultrawide and macro camera in addition to the periscope telephoto.
  • You prioritize the Edge 70 Pro’s higher listed ingress-protection ratings.

Consider the Nothing Phone (4a) if

  • Its lower cited European MSRP matters more than the Motorola’s additional hardware specifications.
  • You prefer Nothing OS or the configurations available from retailers in your market.
  • You can get a better local offer for the same RAM and storage tier than the Motorola.

This is a specification-based decision, not a hands-on head-to-head verdict. The available sources do not establish a controlled processor benchmark or a direct comparison of camera images, and megapixels cannot fill that gap. For a camera-led purchase, look for an independent side-by-side photo test of the exact regional models. For a long-term software decision, verify each maker’s current regional update commitment: the cited update periods come from different sources, and PhoneArena’s Motorola update figures are not the same type of primary manufacturer evidence as Motorola’s hardware announcement.

How to make a fair local price comparison

  1. Choose your country and compare prices from retailers that actually sell to that market; Motorola says availability and pricing vary by region.
  2. Match RAM and storage as closely as possible. For example, compare the 8GB/256GB Nothing listing with the 8GB/256GB Motorola listing, not with a 128GB Nothing model or a 512GB Motorola model.
  3. Check the live checkout total, seller, discount conditions, warranty and delivery terms. A database MSRP or search-captured retailer price is not a current quote.
  4. Decide which features are worth paying for to you: display refresh rate, charging options, camera configuration, durability ratings, software support or upfront cost.
