The Motorola Edge 70 Max is the stronger pick on published processor, display resolution, battery capacity and charging specifications. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro stands out for its specified 3.5x periscope telephoto camera and a clearly stated six-year security-patch commitment. A price winner is not established: Nothing’s prices vary by country and date, while the official Motorola pages reviewed do not state a current retail price and disagree on the Edge 70 Max’s RAM configuration.
At a glance
| Specification | Nothing Phone (4a) Pro | Motorola Edge 70 Max |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 |
| Display | 6.83-inch AMOLED; 1.5K; 144Hz | 6.82-inch Extreme AMOLED; Quad HD+ (1440 × 3168); up to 144Hz |
| Rear cameras | OIS-equipped Sony LYT700c main; 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto; Sony ultrawide | 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 main with OIS; 8MP ultrawide with autofocus and macro; official support specifications do not list a telephoto camera |
| Battery and charging | 5,080mAh in Nothing’s UK/global listing; 50W wired charging | 7,100mAh; 90W wired charging; 25W magnetic wireless charging with Qi2 |
| Memory and storage | LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage; configurations vary by market | 256GB UFS 4.1 storage; Motorola sources reviewed conflict on RAM: 8GB in regional support specifications and 12GB on its UK knowledge page |
| Software support stated by manufacturer | Three Android updates and six years of security patches | Up to three OS updates; security updates through July 2031 |
These are manufacturer-published specifications and commitments, not independent test results. Motorola’s peak-brightness figure is 7,000 nits and Nothing’s is 5,000 nits, but without a shared measurement method those figures should not be treated as a direct real-world brightness test.
Performance and memory: Motorola has the higher-tier chip, but check the SKU
Motorola lists the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, while Nothing’s March 5, 2026 announcement specifies the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, LPDDR5X memory and UFS 3.1 storage for the Phone (4a) Pro. On chipset tier alone, the Edge 70 Max has the stronger published specification. That does not, by itself, quantify everyday speed or gaming performance.

Display: higher resolution on Motorola; both specify 144Hz
Motorola lists a 6.82-inch Extreme AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 × 3168 and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Nothing specifies a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The near-identical screen sizes and stated refresh rates make resolution the clearest published distinction: Motorola gives the Edge 70 Max the higher-resolution panel.
Nothing advertises up to 5,000 nits peak brightness and Motorola up to 7,000 nits. These are manufacturer figures; absent a common test method, they do not establish which screen is brighter in the same conditions.
Cameras: Nothing specifies a periscope telephoto
Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
Nothing lists an OIS-equipped Sony LYT700c main camera, a 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto camera, a Sony ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera. The company advertises zoom up to 140x; that is a manufacturer claim and is distinct from the camera’s specified 3.5x telephoto reach.
Motorola Edge 70 Max
Motorola lists a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 main rear camera with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultrawide with autofocus and macro, and a 32MP front camera. Its official support material reviewed does not list a telephoto camera.
These specifications describe hardware, not comparative image quality. Megapixel counts and zoom claims alone do not show which phone takes better photos.

Battery and charging: Motorola lists more capacity and more options
Nothing’s March 2026 announcement gives the Phone (4a) Pro a 5,080mAh battery and 50W charging, with a manufacturer claim of reaching 60% in 30 minutes. Its UK store listing also states 5,080mAh; regional specifications can vary.
Motorola lists a 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, 90W wired charging and 25W magnetic wireless charging with Qi2. It estimates up to 73 hours of battery life and up to 42 hours of continuous video playback; these are Motorola estimates, not independent battery tests, and the company notes performance depends on conditions. Capacity and charging figures favor Motorola on paper, but do not establish comparative real-world endurance.

Durability, connectivity and software support
Water and dust resistance
Nothing states that the Phone (4a) Pro is IP65-rated and says it passed a test at up to 25cm depth for up to 20 minutes. That is the manufacturer’s stated test, not a general waterproof guarantee. Nothing also names Gorilla Glass 7i for the display and a metal body.
Motorola lists IP69/IP68 protection and MIL-STD-810H testing. Its product page says the device was tested against 16 categories and 14 procedures. These ratings and test claims do not establish that accidental damage is covered by warranty.
Connectivity and updates
Motorola’s detailed support page lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC, with security updates through July 2031 and up to three OS updates. Nothing promises three Android updates and six years of security patches. The stated patch period is the clearer commitment for someone prioritizing a longer published security-support window.

| Market | Nothing Phone (4a) Pro launch configuration and price |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 8GB/128GB: £499; 12GB/256GB: £549 |
| India | 8GB/128GB: ₹39,999; 8GB/256GB: ₹42,999; 12GB/256GB: ₹45,999 |
| Europe | 8GB/128GB: €479; 12GB/256GB: €549 |
At the time the official UK store page was accessed for this comparison, it displayed £519. Nothing’s US preorder terms, last updated March 13, 2026, listed $499 for 8GB/128GB and $599 for 12GB/256GB; those promotion dates have passed, so these are historical preorder prices, not verified current prices.
The official Motorola Edge 70 Max pages reviewed do not establish a current retail price. Because price and RAM configuration may vary by market, a reliable price gap requires checking a current listing for the same country and storage variant for both phones. Do not infer a universal difference by converting prices across currencies or comparing different configurations.
Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the Edge 70 Max if its higher-tier listed processor, Quad HD+ resolution, larger stated battery, faster wired charging or Qi2 wireless charging matter most to you.
- Consider the Phone (4a) Pro if a specified 3.5x periscope telephoto camera or Nothing’s stated six-year security-patch period better fits your priorities.
- Compare exact local offers before deciding. Check the Edge 70 Max RAM and storage variant as well as the price; the manufacturer material reviewed does not settle either a universal RAM configuration or current Motorola retail price.
Neither set of specifications proves which phone performs better in independent use, produces better photos or lasts longer on a charge. The practical choice depends on current local pricing and which documented features you value most.
