The Nothing Phone (3a) looks stronger on paper for camera hardware and uses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, while Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G has a clear advantage in documented durability and long-term software support. There is no reliable like-for-like price gap to quote without knowing your country and configuration: Samsung’s published prices use different markets and dates, and a current Nothing price was not verified.

Which phone has the better display, processor, and cameras?
Display: both are large FHD+ screens
The reported Nothing display is slightly larger at 6.77 inches than Samsung’s official 6.70-inch listing. Both listed resolutions are in the FHD+ class. The available sources do not establish a complete, like-for-like comparison of refresh rate or panel characteristics, so those details should be checked for the exact regional models before buying.

The Nothing uses a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 according to the comparison listing; Samsung names the Exynos 1330 for the A17 5G and describes it as 5nm. No benchmark or controlled performance test is available here, so the chip names alone do not prove which phone is faster in everyday use or gaming.

Cameras: more megapixels do not settle image quality
On paper, the reported Nothing setup has two 50MP rear cameras and an 8MP third camera, plus a 32MP selfie camera. Samsung lists a 50MP, 5MP, and 2MP rear-camera combination and a 13MP front camera; its launch announcement highlights OIS. These figures describe hardware, not photo results: sensor resolution by itself cannot establish which phone takes better pictures, especially across different lighting and camera modes.
Battery, storage, durability, and updates
Charging and expandable storage
The reported Nothing specification lists a 5,000mAh battery with 50W charging. Samsung’s India launch announcement gives the A17 5G a 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging, and says it supports microSD expansion up to 2TB. The cited comparison does not establish whether the Nothing has expandable storage. Charging figures do not determine real-world battery life, and no comparable runtime test is available.
Samsung’s documented protection and support
Samsung states that the Galaxy A17 5G has an IP54 rating and Gorilla Glass Victus on the front. IP54 should not be read as a promise that the phone is suitable for submersion or pool and beach use. Samsung also cautions that resistance can diminish with wear and that users should follow its care guidance.

A current price difference cannot be calculated responsibly from the available figures because they are not matching quotes. Samsung’s India launch announcement lists launch prices of ₹18,999 for 6GB/128GB, ₹20,499 for 8GB/128GB, and ₹23,499 for 8GB/256GB. Those are launch prices, not guaranteed current street prices.

Separately, Samsung’s US MSRP document effective December 2025 lists $199.99 for the unlocked 128GB Galaxy A17 5G. These amounts describe different markets and price bases and should not be compared as if they were one current price.

Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the Nothing Phone (3a) if its reported camera arrangement, higher-resolution selfie camera, or listed charging speed fits your priorities. Confirm the exact regional specification and price before deciding.
- Consider the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G if you value the officially stated IP54 rating, front Gorilla Glass Victus, microSD expansion, and Samsung’s published update commitment.
- For price-sensitive shopping, compare the same configuration in your local market on the same day; the figures above do not establish a universal price winner.
Neither the reported megapixel counts nor the processor names establish a real-world camera or speed winner. If those are decisive, use comparable reviews or tests of the exact regional versions rather than choosing from headline specifications alone.
