J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) named the GMC Hummer EV SUV the premium-segment model award recipient for active lane change assist. It is recognition for one model and one technology—not a declaration that GMC is the top premium brand for driver assistance overall.
What J.D. Power recognized
The award is for active lane change assist in the GMC Hummer EV SUV. J.D. Power describes it as a premium-segment model award, so the result should not be read as a brand-wide win or a ranking of every driver-assistance system offered by premium automakers. J.D. Power’s 2025 TXI announcement identifies the award and its model-level scope.
Why BMW is a separate part of the story
The Hummer EV’s feature award and J.D. Power’s premium-brand innovation ranking are different results. In the 2025 brand ranking, Genesis led premium brands with 538 points out of 1,000, followed by Cadillac at 526 and Lincoln at 523. BMW scored 511 in the published study document. These are brand innovation scores, not scores for active lane change assist or a head-to-head test against the Hummer EV.

J.D. Power cautions that its rankings are based on numerical scores and are not necessarily statistically significant. The cited material does not supply an award-specific significance test or directly compare the Hummer EV system with a BMW system.

What the Tech Experience Index measures
The TXI examines 40 technologies across comfort and convenience, connected vehicle, driver assist, electric vehicle, and smart vehicle categories. The 2025 smart vehicle category was not eligible for awards. The study considers technology adoption and owner experience, including whether owners like a technology and how many problems they report using it; it is not simply a count of features installed in a vehicle.
J.D. Power based its 2025 study on responses from 76,230 owners of new 2025 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. Fieldwork ran from June 2024 through May 2025, covering vehicles registered from March 2024 through February 2025. J.D. Power’s study announcement quotes Kathleen Rizk, senior director of user experience benchmarking and technology: “Ultimately, what matters most to vehicle owners—and therefore to automakers and suppliers—is how useful the technology is and whether it enhances their driving experience.”

What the award does not establish about the vehicle
The announcement does not specify which Hummer EV trims or model years have active lane change assist, explain how the system operates, or compare it technically with BMW driver-assistance systems. For feature availability and operating limitations on a particular vehicle, check current GMC documentation. The award alone cannot answer those vehicle-specific questions.

How to compare this result with another award
Compare like with like: use the same study year, distinguish a model-and-feature award from a brand innovation ranking, and check the vehicle segment and technology being evaluated. Because the Hummer EV award and the premium-brand scores measure different things, BMW’s 511 should not be used as a score for its lane-change system or as a direct comparison with the Hummer EV feature.
