Norsfell has announced Aftergods, a top-down “survivalite” action RPG for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, with PC distribution named for Steam and the Epic Games Store. The announcement, reported by Gematsu on October 8, 2026, did not include a release date, and the Steam listing still reads “To be announced.” Everything below is drawn from that announcement and the Steam page, so it describes what has been promised, not how the game plays.
What Aftergods is
Norsfell positions Aftergods as both an evolution of and a new project building on its earlier work on Tribes of Midgard. It is a top-down action RPG with survival crafting at its core, set in a handcrafted open world after Ragnarok. The Steam listing identifies Norsfell as both developer and publisher.

The premise: gods without their divinity
The story begins after Ragnarok. Players take on a Godborn, a descendant of gods who survived the cataclysm, whose task is to restore the shattered Seeds of the World Tree and rebalance the cosmos. Norsfell says the game draws on Greek, Egyptian, and Norse pantheons, with room for traditions it has not yet revealed. Players choose a lineage and a class to shape how their Godborn develops.
The central idea, as Norsfell frames it, is what happens when gods lose the source of their divinity and their world collapses. That framing explains the survival elements: a Godborn is not invulnerable.

The announcement lists the following systems. These are developer claims from the reveal, not observations from hands-on play.

- Survival crafting, including harvesting and storage.
- Nectar, a scarce resource. When it runs out, the Godborn reverts to a vulnerable mortal form, which makes managing Nectar a survival concern rather than a currency to stockpile.
- Followers who assist with base building, crafting, harvesting, and storage.
- Shapeshifting into mythical creatures, which Norsfell presents as a way to cross terrain, water, and air.
- Native controller support and handheld optimization, described as being built into the game.
How you play it: solo, co-op, online, or offline
Norsfell says Aftergods can be played solo or cooperatively, and online or offline. The announcement also names two multiplayer hosting approaches: peer-to-peer hosting and rented dedicated servers. Offline single-player is therefore part of the announced design, while the exact details of co-op sessions, host requirements, and server options have not been published in the sources reviewed.

Creative direction and the Tribes of Midgard link
In the press release reproduced by Gematsu, creative director Julian Maroda explains the scope of the project:
“Building on the success of Tribes of Midgard, Aftergods expands beyond Norse lore into a rich tapestry of world mythologies. We were captivated by how closely these legends interconnect, sparking a central question: what happens when the gods lose their source of divinity and their world collapses? This is by far our most ambitious project to date, and we look forward to revealing more about this new universe and all its realms.”

The quote matters for readers who know Tribes of Midgard. Where that game was rooted in Norse material, Aftergods is announced as a move into several mythologies at once. Norsfell has not yet said which additional pantheons will be included beyond the three named.
