Former Rajasthan High Court acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma rejected allegations raised by Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta and questioned Mehta’s intervention in the High Court’s affairs, according to a Hindustan Times report published on 1 October 2026. The report describes allegations and denials, not findings that establish either judge’s account.

What did Sharma say about Mehta?

Sharma’s reported “no business” criticism concerned Mehta’s intervention in Rajasthan High Court affairs. Hindustan Times, recounting remarks Sharma made to The Indian Express, reported that Sharma questioned why a complaint would not go first to the Chief Justice of India. The remarks are Sharma’s position on the dispute; the report does not establish that Mehta acted improperly.

What allegations did Mehta raise?

Hindustan Times said Mehta urged Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to appoint a Chief Justice from another state to lead the Rajasthan High Court. The report summarized Mehta’s allegations as involving misuse of administrative powers, manipulated case listings, favouritism, nepotism and maladministration, including alleged preference for wealthy or influential litigants. These are allegations attributed to Mehta, not proven facts in the report.

How did Sharma respond?

Sharma rejected the allegations, which he had previously described as baseless, and suggested they could arise from professional jealousy. That is Sharma’s proposed explanation for the claims, not a verified account of Mehta’s motive. The available report does not resolve the competing assertions.

What did the Chief Justice of India say about complaints?

Hindustan Times attributed to CJI Surya Kant the statement: “The fact that allegations have been made cannot by itself be treated as a finding against the judge.” The report said he emphasized that complaints against members of the higher judiciary should be handled through established institutional mechanisms. It does not provide enough detail to determine the precise procedural status of the matter.

Have the allegations been proven?

Not on the basis of the Hindustan Times report. It recounts Mehta’s allegations, Sharma’s denials and the CJI’s comments about institutional process; it does not reproduce the complete original letters or provide evidence sufficient to independently assess the alleged conduct. No adjudicated finding establishing the claims is presented, so neither side can be described as vindicated on this account.
