If your Nissan Bluetooth disconnects, will not reconnect, or stops streaming audio, start with the phone and vehicle settings, then check the phone’s position, restart both devices, and re-pair them if needed. These are Nissan-supported troubleshooting checks—not guaranteed fixes. Menu labels and Bluetooth compatibility differ by model year, infotainment system, and phone, so consult your exact vehicle’s owner’s manual before using menu-specific instructions.
1. Make sure Bluetooth is on in both places
Bluetooth must be enabled on the phone and in the vehicle’s hands-free system. Nissan’s 2020 NissanConnect Owner’s Manual lists Bluetooth being switched off on either side as a possible reason a phone will not connect or disconnects after pairing. Check both settings rather than assuming that a previously working connection is still enabled.
2. Charge the phone and keep it near the system
A low phone battery can contribute to connection trouble. Charge the phone, then place it close to the vehicle’s Bluetooth system. Nissan also advises keeping the phone away from metal or locations where metal surrounds it, since placement can affect the wireless connection. See the 2020 owner’s manual and Nissan Canada’s Bluetooth FAQ.

3. Reduce competing Bluetooth connections and interference
Turn off Bluetooth on other nearby devices temporarily, especially devices that may also connect to the phone. Nissan Canada recommends this to help avoid interference. Move metal objects away from the phone and vehicle audio system as well. If the connection becomes stable, reconnect nearby devices one at a time to see whether one coincides with the problem; this is a diagnostic check, not proof that a particular device is at fault.

4. Restart the phone and vehicle, then toggle Bluetooth
Nissan Canada recommends restarting both the phone and vehicle and turning Bluetooth off and back on when connection trouble occurs. Switch Bluetooth off on the phone, restart the phone and vehicle according to their normal instructions, then switch Bluetooth back on and try connecting again. Nissan does not provide one universal restart procedure for every vehicle system, so follow your vehicle’s manual rather than attempting an undocumented reset.
5. Delete the old pairing and pair again
If the saved connection may be stale, remove the Nissan pairing from the phone and remove the phone from the vehicle’s saved devices. Then pair them again. Nissan Canada recommends deleting the pairing on both sides before reconnecting; the vehicle’s exact menu steps vary.

Use the pairing path for your system
Nissan’s U.S. Bluetooth setup guidance gives these examples: on navigation-equipped vehicles, use Phone > Connect > Connect New Device; on vehicles without navigation, use Enter/Setting > Bluetooth > Add Phone. These are not universal paths. Follow the owner’s manual for your Nissan’s model year and system.
In the general pairing flow, turn on Bluetooth in the phone’s settings, open the vehicle’s pairing menu, select the vehicle name on the phone, compare the PIN shown by both devices, and accept the pairing. If the PINs do not match, cancel and start the process again.

6. Check compatibility and make sure music is in Bluetooth mode
If pairing fails or the connection remains unreliable, check Nissan’s device-compatibility information or ask a Nissan dealer to verify compatibility for your vehicle and phone. The 2020 owner’s manual directs owners to compatibility information or a dealer for this check.
If calls drop
Note whether calls alone disconnect or whether music drops too. Nissan’s support FAQ addresses dropped calls and recommends the connection checks above. A dealer can assess the specific vehicle and phone combination if the problem persists.

If music pauses or will not play
Confirm that the audio system is set to Bluetooth audio mode. A cellular call can interrupt Bluetooth music playback without indicating a fault. Nissan’s 2019 NissanConnect Owner’s Manual covers Bluetooth audio playback troubleshooting.
Use USB or AUX as a temporary alternative
Nissan Canada suggests trying AUX or USB if calls drop or Bluetooth streaming is troublesome. A wired connection is a workaround for calls or music, not a repair to Bluetooth. Check your owner’s manual and the ports in your vehicle and phone before choosing a cable; the connector and supported functions depend on the devices.

What to tell a Nissan dealer if it still disconnects
If the checks do not resolve the issue, contact Nissan support or a dealer rather than assuming a particular repair is needed. Bring the phone model, its operating-system version, the Nissan model and year, and a clear description of what happens. Record whether calls, music, or both disconnect; whether another phone has the same problem; whether it started after a phone update; and whether USB or AUX works. Those details help narrow down the situation, but they do not establish a cause on their own.
