Nintendo Switch Online profile icon rewards are characters, backgrounds, and frames you can redeem with My Nintendo Platinum Points in the Nintendo Switch Online app on a supported Switch or Switch 2. You need an active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership to redeem them. The catalog rotates, so check the console for the rewards and conditions available to your account now.

What you need to redeem icon rewards

  • A supported Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console connected to the internet.
  • An active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • My Nintendo Platinum Points for any elements that have a point cost. Generic frames and background colors are available without points.

Some elements have extra eligibility rules: an element may require you to play its associated game while it is available, or to have played on at least three separate days in the previous 30 days. Check the element or mission details in the console; that condition does not apply to every reward. Nintendo lists the current requirements in its custom icon support guide.

How to earn and redeem profile icon elements

  1. Open the reward catalog. From the HOME Menu, open Nintendo Switch Online and choose the user account that should receive the elements. Select Missions & Rewards to view the available missions and icon elements.
  2. Complete a Platinum Point mission. Read the mission’s conditions, complete them, then return to the My Nintendo missions page and collect the points. Check its deadline: if the collection period passes, a completed mission may not grant its points.
  3. Redeem an element. Choose a character, frame, or background and spend the required Platinum Points. Some basic frames and background colors do not cost points; game-specific elements may.

Nintendo says themes change monthly and icon elements refresh weekly. These are general rotation patterns, not a promise that a particular reward will return. Check Missions & Rewards on your console for current availability, point costs, and mission conditions.

How to create and set a custom user icon

  1. In Nintendo Switch Online, open Icon Collection.
  2. Start from the Icons screen to choose a game, or select an element from the Icon Elements screen.
  3. Choose compatible character, frame, and background elements, then save the icon.
  4. Select the saved icon as the user icon from Nintendo Switch Online.

Icons assembled from elements are set through Nintendo Switch Online on the HOME Menu, rather than the usual icon selector in System Settings or the User Page. Nintendo permits up to 100 saved user icons in one Icon Collection.

Which membership tier qualifies for an element?

Standard icon elements generally require an active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Some parts are reserved for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, who need an active paid Expansion Pack membership to qualify. Nintendo UK says all accounts in an Expansion Pack family membership group qualify for those parts. Requirements depend on the particular element, so check its details rather than assuming that one tier unlocks every item. See Nintendo’s Expansion Pack icon elements FAQ.

What happens when membership ends?

Once an element has been added to Icon Collection, Nintendo says you keep access to it even if your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends. The elements and saved icons belong to the Nintendo Account that collected them: they appear on consoles linked to that same account but cannot be shared with another Nintendo Account.

Why is an icon element missing or unavailable?

  • Wrong user selected: Return to the Nintendo Switch Online app and select the account that should receive or use the element.
  • Rotation changed: Icon elements refresh weekly, and a past reward is not guaranteed to return on a schedule.
  • Not enough Platinum Points: Check the element’s cost and your point balance.
  • Membership tier does not qualify: Look for an Expansion Pack requirement on the element.
  • A game-play condition is unmet: Read the mission or element details for a required game or play period.
  • Elements are incompatible: Parts generally need to come from the same game or collection, though generic frames and backgrounds can be used with them. For example, Animal Crossing: New Horizons parts cannot be combined with Super Mario Odyssey parts. A character that already includes a background may not allow a separate background.

Nintendo’s support instructions direct players to the console for the current catalog and conditions. Availability, point costs, and missions can vary by rotation and region.
