For The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on a TV, choose the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model if you want its larger screen and extra built-in storage, or the standard Nintendo Switch if its lower listed price matters more. Switch Lite runs the game but is handheld-only, so choose it only if you do not need TV play.

Which Switch is best for Breath of the Wild?

The right model depends mainly on where you plan to play. The OLED and standard Switch both support TV, tabletop, and handheld play. Lite is designed for handheld play and does not connect to a TV. Nintendo’s product pages list U.S. advertised prices of $399.99 for OLED, $339.99 for standard Switch, and $229.99 for Lite; Nintendo notes prices may vary. These are manufacturer-listed prices, not a guarantee of current retailer pricing. Check the current listing, seller, condition, and included items before buying. Nintendo’s Switch comparison and OLED product page provide the model details.

Model Best fit Play modes Screen and built-in storage Nintendo advertised U.S. price
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model TV play plus the largest built-in screen TV, tabletop, handheld 7-inch OLED; 64GB $399.99
Nintendo Switch TV play at a lower listed price TV, tabletop, handheld 6.2-inch LCD; 32GB $339.99
Nintendo Switch Lite Portable, handheld-only play Handheld 5.5-inch LCD; 32GB $229.99

Prices are Nintendo’s advertised U.S. figures on pages accessed October 7, 2026; they may differ from current retail offers. Screen sizes and storage are Nintendo specifications on its comparison page accessed the same date. Built-in storage is not the same as usable free space, which can be reduced by system software and downloads.

Choose OLED for the larger built-in display

The OLED model’s 7-inch OLED screen is the largest of these three, and its 64GB built-in storage is twice the standard Switch’s or Lite’s 32GB. Those are the documented reasons to pay more if you will also play in handheld or tabletop mode or prefer more built-in space. Nintendo’s cited specifications do not establish a Breath of the Wild frame-rate or performance improvement over the other models.

Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Choose the standard Switch for TV play at a lower listed price

The standard Switch has the same three play modes as OLED and is listed by Nintendo at $60 less in the U.S. figures above. It has a 6.2-inch LCD and 32GB storage. For a player who mainly wants to play on a television, those differences help frame the trade-off: lower listed price versus OLED’s larger screen and greater built-in storage.

Choose Lite only if handheld-only suits you

Breath of the Wild is compatible with Switch Lite. Nintendo describes Lite as “a compact, lightweight Nintendo Switch system dedicated to handheld play” and says it plays Switch library games that support handheld mode. It has a 5.5-inch LCD and 32GB storage, but no TV mode. If you may want TV play for this or another game, choose OLED or standard Switch instead. Nintendo’s Switch Lite product page names the game and explains Lite’s handheld focus.

How long does Breath of the Wild run on a charge?

Nintendo estimates approximately 5.5 hours of battery life for Breath of the Wild on both the OLED and standard Switch, and approximately 4 hours on Lite. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed session lengths or independent test results; actual battery duration varies with the game and conditions. Nintendo’s broader estimated battery ranges are about 4.5–9 hours for OLED and standard Switch and 3–7 hours for Lite. Nintendo’s comparison page lists both the game-specific estimates and general ranges.

What to check before choosing Lite

Lite works for this game, but compatibility is not universal across the Switch library because some games do not support handheld mode or have features that rely on controls Lite does not provide. Before buying Lite for a library of games, check each title’s supported play modes on its packaging or eShop listing. Nintendo notes that some features may require separately purchased controllers. Nintendo’s comparison page explains the handheld-mode limitation.

What else should you check before buying?

  • Decide whether TV play matters. If it does, narrow the choice to OLED or standard Switch; Lite is handheld-only.
  • Compare OLED and standard Switch on the differences that matter to you. OLED has a 7-inch display and 64GB storage; standard Switch has a 6.2-inch display and 32GB.
  • Verify the exact listing. Confirm the model, seller, new or used condition, bundle contents, return terms, and current price. Manufacturer-listed prices may not match a retailer’s offer.
  • Treat accessories as optional. Nintendo lists microSDXC support for Switch hardware. A compatible card can add storage, while a screen protector or carrying case may suit portable use; none is required to play Breath of the Wild. Check compatibility with the exact console model before ordering. Nintendo’s accessories page lists Switch accessories.
