The Nikon Z5II is rated for about 330–390 still photos or about 85 minutes of video per fully charged EN-EL15c battery, depending on the shooting mode and settings. These are CIPA-based estimates, not a guarantee for every shoot; repeated autofocus, wireless connections, cold weather and other usage can shorten real-world endurance.
How long does the Nikon Z5II battery last?
Nikon’s current Z5II Reference Guide reports the following approximate endurance with a fully charged EN-EL15c battery. The still-photo figures are CIPA-based measurements using default settings, one photograph every 30 seconds and a NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S lens, at 23 °C ±3 °C. Nikon says actual endurance varies with battery condition, the interval between shots and menu options.

The video estimate is also a CIPA measurement at default settings with the same lens. A single video clip can run for up to 125 minutes, but that is a clip-length limit, not a battery-life estimate: the camera may stop recording sooner if its temperature rises. Why your results may differ from Nikon’s figures
The still-photo test represents a defined pattern of use, not continuous shooting or an entire day of varied photography. Nikon identifies several conditions that can reduce endurance, but does not publish a separate battery-life penalty for each one:

- Repeatedly half-pressing the shutter-release button or repeatedly focusing.
- Taking NEF (RAW) photographs or using slow shutter speeds.
- Using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, or connecting optional accessories.
- Repeatedly zooming with a zoom lens.
- Shooting in low ambient temperatures.
Battery condition, time between photographs and selected menu options also affect the result. Treat the published shot count as a comparison point under Nikon’s test conditions rather than a promised minimum for your particular outing.
Settings and habits that can help the battery last longer
Turn on Energy saving (photo mode)
This is the clearest quantified setting change in Nikon’s endurance figures. With Energy saving on, Nikon reports about 380 rather than 330 viewfinder-only shots, and about 390 rather than 350 monitor-only shots. Those are differences in Nikon’s CIPA test results, not a guaranteed increase for every user or shooting pattern.

Reduce avoidable camera activity
When power is tight, avoid unnecessary half-presses and repeated autofocus operations. Limit Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use, optional connected accessories, repeated zooming, RAW capture or slow shutter speeds when they are not needed for the shot. Nikon identifies these as factors that can reduce endurance, but does not quantify the savings from changing any one of them.

Nikon advises keeping battery contacts clean and using a charged battery soon after charging, since a battery loses charge when left unused. Carry a recently charged spare for longer sessions rather than relying on the camera’s estimate alone.
