Nikita Kucherov is already the Tampa Bay Lightning’s career regular-season assists leader. At the franchise’s April 28, 2026 cutoff, he ranked second in goals and points, with 401 goals, 723 assists and 1,124 points. The available official figures do not establish how many points separate him from the franchise leader, so there is no verified numerical gap to report.
What record is Kucherov closing in on?
The phrase “franchise record” can refer to career goals, assists or points—or to a single-season mark. Those are different categories. Tampa Bay’s April 28, 2026 release places Kucherov first in career regular-season assists and second in career goals and points. It does not give the current leader’s totals or a points gap, so an exact distance to either career record cannot be stated from that release. Tampa Bay Lightning’s April 28, 2026 release

Milestones behind the record chase
First Lightning player to reach 700 assists
On February 26, 2026, the NHL reported that Kucherov became the first player to record 700 assists with the Lightning. That milestone marks an important round number within his career assist total; it is not the same as the franchise’s all-time assists record, which he already led by the later April cutoff. Tied for the most 30-goal seasons in Lightning history
The NHL’s February 26 report also said Kucherov’s ninth 30-goal season tied Steven Stamkos for the most in franchise history. This counts seasons reaching at least 30 goals, rather than comparing career goal totals.

A separate single-season record
In 2023–24, Kucherov set Tampa Bay franchise highs of 144 points and 100 assists in a single season, according to the team. Those are season records, distinct from the career rankings reported in April 2026. Tampa Bay Lightning, 2024

How to read future record updates
Career standings change as games are played. Any precise claim that Kucherov is a certain number of goals or points from a record needs a current official franchise leaderboard, a stated cutoff date and the record holder’s total at that same cutoff. Without those paired figures, his ranking is clear, but the numerical gap is not.
