The Nike Vomero 18 is a maximum-cushion road shoe aimed at everyday running, especially easy, recovery, and long road miles. Its tall ZoomX-over-ReactX midsole delivers the substantial cushioning independent reviewers describe, but reviewers also call the shoe heavy. It is a better fit for runners who prioritize a cushioned road ride than for those seeking a light, fast shoe or dependable off-road grip.
What the Vomero 18 is designed for
Nike positions the Vomero 18 as its maximum-cushion road-running shoe for everyday runs and comfort. In Nike’s February 27, 2025 launch announcement, the company said its design was informed by women runners’ needs and insights; that is Nike’s account of its development, not independent validation of fit.
Nike distinguishes the Vomero’s maximum cushioning from the responsive cushioning of the Pegasus and the supportive cushioning of the Structure. That describes Nike’s lineup positioning, not a controlled comparison of the shoes.
Construction and specifications
The Vomero 18 places ZoomX foam over ReactX, with Nike describing ZoomX as running the length of the shoe and ReactX in the heel and forefoot. Nike lists a 46 mm heel stack and 36 mm forefoot stack—six millimeters more than the prior Vomero—and says the design has increased rocker geometry. The UK product listing specifies a 10 mm heel-to-toe drop.

| Detail | What the sources specify |
|---|---|
| Midsole | ZoomX over ReactX; Nike says ZoomX runs the full length, with ReactX in the heel and forefoot. |
| Stack height | 46 mm heel / 36 mm forefoot, specified by Nike. |
| Heel-to-toe drop | 10 mm, on Nike’s UK product listing. |
| Weight | Approximately 325 g for men’s UK size 9, according to Nike UK. iRunFar reviewer Nathan Allen reported 11.3 oz/320 g for a US men’s size 10; the different size bases make these figures unsuitable as a direct comparison. |
| Upper and outsole | Nike describes engineered mesh, a plush tongue and lining, outsole pods, and reflective details. |
How it feels to run in
Independent reviewers broadly agree that the shoe offers ample cushioning, but their descriptions of the ride differ. iRunFar’s Nathan Allen, writing on May 6, 2025, called it one of the plushest shoes available and found the upper comfortable with a fairly middle-of-the-road width. Doctors of Running also described it as well-cushioned, but said the ride felt firmer and more responsive than its tall stack might imply. Those are individual reviewer impressions, not a single objective verdict on softness or responsiveness.
Weight is the more consistent drawback in the reviews: Doctors of Running calls it heavy, while iRunFar’s reported weight is 320 g for a US men’s size 10. Nike’s approximately 325 g figure uses a different basis—a men’s UK size 9—so size matters when interpreting either number.

Best uses—and where it is less convincing
Everyday, easy, recovery, and long road runs
The high stack and substantial cushioning align with Nike’s everyday-running positioning. Doctors of Running considers the shoe more suited to slower easy, recovery, and long runs than to faster sessions. If your priority is a cushioned road shoe for those runs, the Vomero 18 is a plausible option; the available reviews do not establish a performance advantage or medical benefit.

Its heavy build and the Doctors of Running assessment make it less compelling as a dedicated fast-day shoe. That does not rule out running faster in it, but the sources do not present speed work as its strongest role.

Dirt and gravel
iRunFar’s reviewer noted less waffle-inspired outsole rubber than on the Vomero 17 and said that could mean less grip on dirt, gravel, and crushed rock. Doctors of Running reported good traction on roads and mild trails. These observations differ in emphasis and do not amount to a universal grip test; the Vomero 18 is a road shoe, not a trail shoe.
Fit and sizing
Nike UK’s listing offers regular and wide fit options. iRunFar’s reviewer described the upper as comfortable and its width as fairly middle-of-the-road. The available evidence does not support a general rule to size up or down, so check the current listing’s fit options and use your usual sizing judgment rather than assuming a particular adjustment.
Rank #4
- The upper is made of engineered mesh for soft breathability.
- Our dual-density midsole has ZoomX foam stacked on top of ReactX foam, 13% more responsive than previous React technology, for a comfortable ride.
- We placed pods around the outsole to help enhance agility and smoother heel-to-toe transitions.
- A plush tongue and lining give you a comfortably snug feel.
- Newly stacked foam midsole with premium ZoomX on top of ReactX foam amplifies cushioned comfort.
RunRepeat reports that the insole is removable and that most third-party replacement insoles fit without issue in its assessment. That does not verify compatibility for any specific replacement: if you need a different insole, check its dimensions and fit in the shoe.
Additional review testing
RunRepeat reports a 4/5 torsional rigidity rating, 3/5 toe-box durability, and 5/5 heel-padding durability in its own review testing. These are RunRepeat’s measurements and ratings, not Nike specifications or industry standards.

Price and availability
Nike announced global availability at Nike.com and select retailers in February 2025. On October 4, 2026, Nike UK displayed the men’s listing at £101.49, reduced from £144.99. That was a UK listing observed on that date, not a stable global price; check the current price, stock, color, and fit options before buying.
Should you buy the Nike Vomero 18?
Consider it if you want a highly cushioned road shoe for everyday, easy, recovery, or long runs and are comfortable with a heavier build. Look elsewhere if low weight, faster workouts, or more assured grip on loose surfaces are your priorities. The central trade-off is substantial cushioning for road mileage against weight and less certain grip beyond pavement.
