Nigerian authorities have brought an eight-count case against Adeniyi Adeyemi over an alleged scheme involving the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Adeyemi pleaded not guilty at the Federal High Court in Abuja on 30 September 2026. The case is pending, so the accusations have not been proven.
What happened in court?
Adeyemi appeared for arraignment before the Federal High Court in Abuja on 30 September 2026 and pleaded not guilty to all eight counts. Justice Mohammed Umar ordered him remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre while his bail application was pending. Reports said the next hearing was scheduled for 12 October 2026; court dates can change.
The charges were filed by police on 27 November 2025 against Adeyemi and two other defendants identified in reports only as Femi and Anu. They were reported at large when Adeyemi was arraigned. Earlier proceedings had not resulted in an arraignment: NTA reported that Adeyemi missed a July 2026 court appearance and that a warrant was issued, while later reports said he was arrested shortly afterward. Premium Times described earlier delays involving requests by counsel, an absence, and the judge’s official engagements.

What are the allegations?
The prosecution alleges conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation connected to the purported PFIPC. It says documents were used to make the council appear officially established or recognized. Reported examples include a purported presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads, an approval for the council’s take-off, requests for staff accounts and office accommodation, and letters seeking collaboration with a federal ministry.

One count alleges Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the council’s Director-General. Adeyemi has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. These claims remain matters for the court to decide.
What does the Presidency say about PFIPC?
The Presidency’s reported position is that PFIPC was not established under the Tinubu administration and that no appointment was made. Channels Television reproduced a sentence from a disclaimer signed by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President: “such an office does not exist under this administration and no appointment has been made in that regard.”

Why a reported budget entry does not settle the question
Channels Television also reported that the Budget Office’s published 2026 Appropriation Bill details included a combined entry for “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” with a total allocation of ₦1.303 billion. That reported listing sits uneasily alongside the Presidency’s assertion that the purported councils were fictitious, but an entry in budget details alone does not prove that PFIPC was lawfully created or that money was disbursed.

Channels Television reported that Adeyemi challenged the official account and called for an independent investigation. It also reported his allegations about Gbajabiamila alongside the Presidency’s rejection of his claims. Those disputed statements have not been adjudicated in the pending criminal case.

What investigators reportedly found—and what remains unproven
Premium Times reported that police investigators said they traced 34 bank accounts linked to Adeyemi, including nine in the names of purported government agencies. That figure is an investigative claim reported by the outlet, not a judicial finding. The available reporting does not establish a conviction, a final finding about the accounts, or that any funds were transferred.

At the September arraignment, the court ordered remand pending consideration of Adeyemi’s bail application; it did not decide his guilt. Reports said a bail hearing and trial were set for 12 October 2026. Until the court reaches a decision, the allegations against Adeyemi and the two other defendants remain unresolved.
