Nextiva XBert is an AI receptionist and customer-service assistant that Nextiva says can answer inbound calls, SMS, and web chat, qualify leads, book appointments, and route requests to a person. Its published price is $99 per month for 100 counted sessions, then $0.99 per additional session. Whether it fits your business depends on how sessions are counted, which integrations and actions your workflow needs, and how reliably its human handoff handles cases the AI should not resolve on its own.

This review assesses Nextiva’s published features and terms, not independently tested call quality or business outcomes. Treat product capabilities, trial terms, security claims, and pricing as vendor statements; verify the current details before committing.

What is Nextiva XBert?

Nextiva describes XBert as an AI receptionist and customer-service assistant for the customer-facing frontline. Its product materials say it can respond across voice, SMS, and web chat; answer routine questions; capture and qualify leads; book or reschedule appointments; update records through integrations; and escalate complex or sensitive conversations to a person with conversation context. These are Nextiva’s descriptions, not independently demonstrated results. Nextiva’s XBert product page provides its current overview.

That mix makes XBert relevant to small and midsize businesses that handle recurring inquiries or appointment requests. It is less useful to judge it simply by whether it can answer a call: the practical question is whether it can use your business information accurately, take only the actions you authorize, and hand off the conversations that need a person.

What can XBert handle?

Nextiva says XBert can handle customer conversations on calls, SMS, and web chat. Its advertised tasks include answering common questions, collecting lead details, qualifying inquiries, booking appointments, and routing requests to the appropriate staff member. With connected tools, it may also read or update information such as availability, balances, and order history, subject to the integration and permissions in use. Nextiva’s integration page describes these data and workflow capabilities.

XBert’s answers are meant to draw on information provided by the business or found on its website, such as services, policies, FAQs, hours, and workflows. That means it is not enough to switch the assistant on: the information it relies on needs to be accurate and kept current. You will also need to decide what XBert may do without approval and which requests must go to a human.

How much does XBert cost?

Nextiva’s published XBert pricing is $99 per month for 100 included sessions, plus $0.99 for each additional session. On the pricing page, a session is a phone call longer than 30 seconds or an SMS/chat conversation with three or more AI interactions. The page says hang-ups, wrong numbers, and trivial or partial interactions do not count. The product FAQ describes short calls and single-message chats somewhat differently, so confirm the billing definition and current offer at sign-up rather than assuming every interaction is treated the same way. XBert’s pricing page has the published usage terms.

Before estimating your monthly bill, work out how many interactions are likely to meet the session definition and ask whether calls and messaging share the same included pool. Also check whether your chosen phone setup or required integrations entail separate costs; the reviewed pricing information does not establish those costs for every configuration.

Which integrations does XBert support?

Nextiva’s pricing FAQ lists Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Zendesk, ServiceNow, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly, QuickBooks, Clover, Shopify, Housecall Pro, and Epic, among others. The integration page describes reading live information, making approved updates, and passing conversation context to staff. That list does not by itself establish that every integration supports every action or configuration.

Before choosing XBert, verify the exact connection and permissions needed for your workflow. For example, confirm whether it can read appointment availability, create or change the records you need, and send staff the relevant conversation context. Nextiva says custom API work may require support scoping, so treat a nonstandard integration as a separate implementation question rather than an assumed feature. The current list and workflow descriptions are on the XBert integrations page.

How hard is setup and ongoing control?

Nextiva describes XBert as self-setup or guided setup, but its pages give different estimates: under five minutes for basic setup, around fifteen minutes when integrations are involved, and under an hour for most teams. Those are vendor estimates, not independently measured setup times. Actual effort depends on preparing accurate business information, connecting tools, deciding what the assistant can do, and reviewing how it handles edge cases.

Nextiva says the product includes guardrails, human handoff, recordings or transcripts, and usage reporting. Before routing real customers, check the product’s actual settings and test representative calls and messages. Pay particular attention to what happens when the assistant lacks an answer, which situations trigger escalation, whether staff can review the transcript, and which CRM fields it can create or edit. These controls matter more than a fast initial setup if an inaccurate answer or unauthorized update could affect a customer.

What does Nextiva say about security and compliance?

Nextiva’s product FAQ describes XBert’s platform as SOC 2 Type II audited, ISO 27001 certified, and PCI DSS compliant. It says HIPAA eligibility depends on executing the required Business Associate Agreement; other XBert pages also make HIPAA and GDPR posture and encryption claims. These are vendor statements, not an independent assessment of your deployment. If you handle regulated or sensitive information, confirm the scope, configuration, contractual terms, and whether the necessary agreement covers your specific use before sending that data through XBert. See the current claims in the product FAQ and pricing FAQ.

Who should consider XBert?

XBert is worth evaluating if your business receives repeatable inquiries, appointment requests, or lead calls across the channels it supports, and you can define clear rules for when a person must take over. Its advertised integrations may also matter if you want the assistant to use current business records rather than answer from static information alone.

It is a weaker fit if you cannot keep the underlying business information accurate, need a specialized integration whose permitted actions have not been confirmed, or expect the AI to resolve sensitive cases without human review. No independent benchmark or hands-on assessment establishes XBert’s accuracy, response quality, or customer outcomes, so those should be judged in a trial using your own common and difficult scenarios.

What to test during the trial

  1. Build a representative knowledge set. Add the hours, services, policies, FAQs, and workflows the assistant will need, then test whether its answers reflect the current information.
  2. Try every channel you intend to use. Test calls, SMS, and web chat separately with routine questions, appointment requests, and incomplete or ambiguous requests.
  3. Test escalation boundaries. Ask questions XBert should not answer, and verify that it routes them to the right person with useful context.
  4. Verify integration permissions. Confirm which data XBert reads, what updates it can make, and how staff see the conversation history.
  5. Check usage and billing behavior. Review session counts, caps, alerts, and the treatment of brief calls and messaging interactions against the current terms.
  6. Review security and contract fit. If regulated information is involved, obtain confirmation of applicable controls and agreements for your intended deployment.
