Nextdoor announced a redesigned experience on July 15, 2025, built around local alerts, publisher news and neighborhood recommendations. Alerts bring events such as severe weather and road disruptions into the feed and neighborhood map; News adds location-relevant stories from local publishers. Nextdoor’s later updates describe additional integrations and expanded news coverage, but availability varies by feature and market.
What changed in Nextdoor’s July 2025 redesign?
Nextdoor Holdings, Inc. presented the redesign on July 15, 2025, as a more timely and useful neighborhood experience. Its announcement grouped the product around three areas: Alerts, News and a recommendations feature. The press release called the latter Ask, while the company blog published the same day called it Faves—a naming difference in Nextdoor’s own launch materials, not a distinction the company explained there. Nextdoor’s July 15, 2025 announcement and its launch blog describe the rollout.
How do Nextdoor alerts work?
At launch, Nextdoor said Alerts would cover routine local information such as weather and traffic as well as more serious events, including power outages, severe storms, wildfires and public-safety incidents. The company described two placements: severe alerts at the top of the feed, and everyday alerts on a dynamic neighborhood map. The map and feed are intended to let neighbors discuss what is happening, including with public-agency partners such as fire departments.

Later integrations: earthquakes and road disruptions
In a February 17, 2026 product update, Nextdoor said real-time earthquake data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) had been added to Alerts in December 2025. It also reported a Waze partnership, added in November 2025, for U.S. traffic and road alerts. Nextdoor listed accidents, road closures, hazards and traffic-light outages as examples. These partnerships were later additions; they were not part of the July 2025 launch description. Nextdoor’s February 17, 2026 product update gives the company’s account of both integrations.
What local news appears in the feed?
Nextdoor said its News feature places stories from vetted local publishers in the feed according to a neighbor’s location. Examples in the July 2025 release included the San Francisco Standard, The London Standard and The Toronto Star. The release also said the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) network included more than 500 outlets across virtually every U.S. state and the District of Columbia. Nextdoor described the platform as a way for publishers to reach neighbors directly.

The figures refer to different reporting dates and should not be read as a promise that a particular publisher or article is visible to every neighbor.

What are Ask and Faves?
The third part of the launch experience was intended to help neighbors find recommendations from local conversations. The July 15 press release calls the feature Ask and says it uses AI to distill insights from 14 years of neighborhood conversations; it describes the initial launch as limited to select U.S. markets. The same-day blog calls it Faves, describes summaries based on 14 years of neighborhood conversation, and offers “What is the best place to hike with kids?” as an example prompt. Because the names differ in the primary launch materials, it is safest to describe this as a recommendations feature and retain the label used by the specific source.
A later product update dated August 4, 2026 uses Ask for a feature that can point neighbors to conversations, local businesses, other neighbors or Groups, and says it can surface an answer when a question goes unanswered. That update describes its knowledge base as nearly fifteen years of verified-neighbor conversations. It separately says Nextdoor planned to make Faves easier to discover during the second half of 2026. The update does not establish that every part of either feature is available to all users or that rollouts are identical across markets. Nextdoor’s August 4, 2026 product update provides the later feature descriptions.

What should users know about availability?
Nextdoor’s launch release specified that Ask was initially rolling out in select U.S. markets. Its February 2026 announcement specifies that Waze road alerts are for the U.S.; the launch and subsequent company updates do not establish current availability for every country, neighborhood, device or account. Publisher coverage and alert integrations can therefore differ by location and date. The coverage figures above are company-reported snapshots, not independent evaluations of accuracy, usefulness or completeness.
