There is no single USB-boot procedure for every Nextbook. The correct menu-entry method and compatible recovery or installation media depend on the exact model. Identify the model first, then use its documentation to find the firmware or recovery boot menu and select a compatible USB drive.
Why the exact Nextbook model matters
Nextbook models do not share one confirmed button sequence or set of firmware requirements. Reports describe different menu-entry methods: an NXW101QC232 community project uses the volume buttons to select a thumb drive from a boot menu, while an EFMW101T discussion describes a different power-and-volume-button route. Check the label on the device or its system information for the full model number. Use that number to locate the appropriate manual or firmware instructions before trying key presses or changing settings. The available material does not establish an official, current procedure for an unspecified Nextbook model.

Decide whether you need recovery media or a fresh operating-system installer, then create media intended for that task and compatible with your Nextbook’s model and firmware. A generic Windows or Linux installer is not guaranteed to boot on every Nextbook. The available information does not establish a universal USB format, capacity, port type, installer architecture, or Secure Boot setting.

One NXW101QC232 community project specifies FAT32 and an 8 GB minimum for its own USB setup. Those are that project’s instructions, not manufacturer requirements for other Nextbook models. ASUS, for example, says FAT32 is required for booting USB on the ASUS devices covered by its guidance; this illustrates vendor-specific requirements, not a Nextbook rule. Open the boot menu and select the USB drive
Start the device’s firmware or recovery boot menu. If the menu recognizes the prepared drive, it should appear as a boot option. The exact way to open the menu varies by model, so follow the relevant manual or firmware instructions rather than assuming a button combination.

ASUS describes the general selection step for its own applicable devices this way: “In the Boot Menu, select the USB flash drive or CD-ROM you wish to boot from②, then press the Enter key to boot from the selected USB or CD-ROM.” That is an ASUS instruction, not a Nextbook procedure.
If the USB drive does not appear
- Confirm that the USB media was actually created as bootable and is intended for the recovery or installation task.
- Check that the media is compatible with the exact Nextbook model and its firmware.
- Reconnect the drive before starting the device, then check the boot menu again.
- Consult the model’s documentation before changing firmware settings. The available model-specific reports do not support a blanket recommendation to disable Secure Boot or enable legacy boot on all Nextbooks.
If the drive remains absent, the model and its documentation are needed to determine whether a different preparation method, port, or firmware setting applies.
