September 2026’s data-center announcements point to a more integrated approach to AI infrastructure: liquid-cooling products, power-and-cooling reference designs, operations software and plans for new capacity. The key distinction is maturity: a product qualification or design announcement is not proof of a completed deployment or measured facility performance.
What’s changing in data-center cooling?
Several vendors announced liquid-cooling products or qualifications in September. Their ratings describe vendor-stated product capacity; they are not a shared measure of cooling performance across facilities.
| Announcement | Stated capacity or scope | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Vertiv CoolChip CDU, September 21 | Vertiv rates the CDU at 2.3 MW. | Vertiv said it was the first CDU to qualify specifically as NVIDIA DSX Ready. This is a vendor-reported qualification and rating. |
| LG CDU, September 2026 | LG rates its CDU at 2.6 MW. | LG announced a qualification for NVIDIA AI-factory infrastructure as part of its “Chip-to-Chiller” portfolio. |
| Schneider Electric Motivair CDU, September 23 | Schneider says it supports 30–40 MW data halls. | The company describes hybrid air-and-liquid cooling and says warmer operating temperatures improve overall energy efficiency. Those are vendor claims, not independently reported comparative results. |
| Delta liquid-to-liquid CDUs, September 15 | Delta announced 2.4 MW and 3 MW models, plus in-rack cooling and other thermal solutions for AI racks. | These are company-announced product capabilities; the release does not establish operating results from commercial deployments. |
Vertiv’s chief product and technology officer, Scott Armul, said, “The scale of AI deployment is forcing a more integrated approach to data center infrastructure.” The announcements show what that integration can mean in product terms, but the stated ratings alone do not establish comparative efficiency, reliability, water use or operating cost.
How are power and cooling being designed together?
Mitsubishi Electric’s reference design for NVIDIA systems
Mitsubishi Electric’s September 24 announcement describes Chip-to-Grid DSX reference designs for NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 and future NVIDIA AI infrastructure in U.S. data centers. The release describes the NVL72 rack-scale system as integrating 72 Rubin GPUs and 36 Vera CPUs, with direct liquid cooling for chips and air cooling for other components. This is a reference design and platform description, not evidence that such deployments are already operating.

Delta’s modular infrastructure
Delta also described a prefabricated modular data-center solution combining 800 VDC in-row power with 3 MW of liquid-cooling capacity. That integrated package is distinct from the company’s separately announced liquid-to-liquid CDU models; the release does not establish commercial deployment results for the modular solution.
What’s new in data-center operations software?
Hitachi announced HMAX Data Center, a suite for integrated infrastructure operations. Hitachi said its HARC for Data Center service, provided by Hitachi Digital Services, would be available for customer engagements in North America beginning September 3, 2026. The company describes the service as monitoring power, IT and cooling, with AI-driven failure analysis and countermeasure recommendations. These are capabilities stated by Hitachi; the announcement does not report independent performance results.

Are announced capacity plans the same as capacity online?
No. On September 9, NVIDIA announced a collaboration with Australian NVIDIA Cloud Partners and AI infrastructure partners to expand land, power and shell capacity for multiple generations of DSX AI factories. NVIDIA set a target of up to 2 GW by 2027. That is a future target in the announcement, not existing or completed capacity.
How is local opposition affecting data-center projects?
On September 21, Tom’s Hardware reported that local opposition had blocked or delayed $68 billion worth of data-center projects between April and June 2026. The article attributed the figure to Bloomberg’s reporting on Data Center Watch. This is a secondary-reported figure, not an official government tally; the report described concerns about project locations and resource consumption.

How should readers compare these announcements?
Compare like with like: cooling architecture and rated capacity, power-delivery design, what infrastructure is integrated, the relevant geography, and whether an announcement is a product qualification, reference design, customer-engagement offering or future capacity target. The announcements do not provide a common independent benchmark for efficiency, cost, water consumption, reliability or deployment performance, so they cannot support a meaningful ranking on those outcomes.
