Ten people were injured when a car struck a crowd gathered to farewell the Newcastle Knights in Wallsend, Newcastle, on Saturday, 3 October 2026, according to NSW Police. Police said a five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man were in critical condition; eight other people were stable in the update. An 18-year-old provisional driver was arrested at the scene.

Where and when the vehicle struck the crowd

The incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. on Newcastle Link Road near the Transfield Drive roundabout in Wallsend. Supporters had gathered there to farewell the Knights before their grand final match; the incident was not at the grand final venue. NSW Police said emergency services were called after reports that a vehicle had struck people in the crowd. NSW Police’s initial statement and the Associated Press report describe the event and procession.

How many people were injured
