Apple has not announced a HomePod mini 2, HomePad or touchscreen HomePod. The latest reported date for a HomePod mini successor and a smart-home display is October 13, 2026, but that date is unconfirmed; the rumored features and product names are unconfirmed, too. Apple’s documented products remain HomePod mini and HomePod (2nd generation).
When is the HomePod mini 2 coming out?
Macworld’s roundup, updated October 1, 2026, reports October 13 as a possible date for a HomePod mini successor and a smart-home display. Apple has not confirmed an announcement or release on that date. Tom’s Guide also reported October 13 as a possible announcement date on September 30, citing Bloomberg reporting; that is still a report about an unconfirmed plan, not an Apple announcement. What are HomePad and the touchscreen HomePod?
These labels refer to reported concepts, not confirmed Apple products or final names. Macworld uses “HomePad,” “Smart Home Hub” and “Personal Hub” for a reported standalone display, and “HomePod Touch” for a reported speaker with an integrated screen. Coverage does not establish whether those concepts will remain separate, be combined, be renamed or be released at all.

What features are rumored?
HomePod mini 2
Recent coverage describes a similar compact design, revised colors, a newer processor and possible wireless-connectivity and audio upgrades. Macworld says five colors appeared in code and expects an S9-or-newer chip. Apple has not published specifications for a successor, so none of these details should be treated as confirmed. Macworld
HomePad or smart-home display
The reported idea is a display-centered device for smart-home control and Siri, potentially usable on a tabletop or mounted on a wall. Those functions and form factors remain rumor claims; coverage does not establish a final screen size, app selection, sensor package or camera.

Should you wait for the HomePod mini 2?
- Need a speaker now: Compare the current mini and full-size model against your room, audio needs, existing Apple setup and smart-home requirements. Choose based on Apple’s documented specifications and the needs of your setup, not on unverified successor upgrades.
- Want a screen-based home controller: Waiting may help you avoid buying just before a possible announcement, but there is no confirmed date, product name or final feature list to rely on.
- Choosing Thread smart-home accessories: Apple Support’s guidance says Thread-based accessories need a Thread-enabled home hub, such as Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini or HomePod (2nd generation), or a third-party Thread border router. Check compatibility for the specific accessory and your household configuration before buying.
