Short answer: A January 15, 2025 Android Authority report showed leaked Galaxy S25 promotional material depicting the phrase “Hey, Gemini.” That is evidence Samsung planned a deeper Gemini integration for the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra—not proof that every retail phone exposes a working “Hey Gemini” setting. A September 2025 court memorandum confirms a Google–Samsung agreement referring to “Hey Google” or “Hey Gemini” hotword invocation, while Google community guidance from April 2025 still identified “Hey Google” as Android’s primary Gemini trigger.
What the Galaxy S25 leak actually showed
The leaked promotional material covered the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra. As reported by Android Authority on January 15, 2025, a promo image showed the phones accepting the voice command “Hey, Gemini,” suggesting Samsung was marketing tighter integration with Google’s Gemini assistant.
The same material depicted Gemini performing actions across apps. The examples included finding places mentioned in a YouTube video and creating a Note. Those demonstrations indicate intended cross-app capabilities, but a leaked marketing image is not the same as a Samsung launch specification or a guarantee that every region and software version received identical functions.
Can you say “Hey Gemini” instead of “Hey Google”?
Not conclusively on every Galaxy S25. The evidence supports three different conclusions:
#1 Best Overall
- MULTIPLE TASKS WITH ONE ASK: Streamline your day with an assistant that gets you. Ask it to Google search for a pet-friendly vegan restaurant nearby and text it to your friend— your Galaxy S25+ handles multiple tasks with a single ask.¹
- START THE DAY SMARTER: Stay one step ahead with a phone that gives you the info you need before you even know you need it with Now Brief.²
- REDUCE THE NOISE. REVEAL THE MAGIC: AI Camera with Audio Eraser lets you capture vibrant videos in low light and minimize unwanted noises so you can relive your favorite moments with fewer distractions.³
- BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY FACE: Capture every portrait with clarity and confidence on the Galaxy S25+ Series. The advanced portrait features adjust skin tones and preserve natural textures, giving every shot a polished, professional look.
- MORE POWER TO YOU: Reimagine what’s possible with the Galaxy S25+, featuring our most powerful processor yet. Effortlessly translate your calls, slow down a video, or edit your photos without skipping a beat.
- The January leak showed Samsung associating the S25 series with the “Hey, Gemini” phrase.
- A memorandum filed by a U.S. District Court on September 2, 2025 described a Google–Samsung Gemini Commercial Agreement running from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027. It said qualified Samsung devices had to set a default hot word to invoke Gemini and discussed invocation through “Hey Google” or “Hey Gemini.”
- A Google Gemini Help Community response dated April 19, 2025 said “Hey Google” remained Android’s primary way to start a Gemini conversation and that “Hey Gemini” was not currently available as an alternative hotword.
The court document establishes a contractual requirement and the leak establishes Samsung’s promotional intent. Neither document proves that an independently selectable “Hey Gemini” switch appeared on every retail S25, in every country, or on every firmware release.
Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra: is the feature the same?
The leak presented the phrase across all three models. Actual behavior depends on the buyer’s software version, region and enabled Gemini extensions. Current documentation should be checked on the specific phone before assuming feature parity.

| Model | What the leak indicated | What is not established by the evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 | Promotional material showed “Hey, Gemini” and Gemini cross-app demonstrations. | Whether a standalone “Hey Gemini” setting was exposed on every retail configuration. |
| Galaxy S25 Plus | Included in the same reported promotional lineup. | Whether hotword behavior and extensions matched other models in every region and software version. |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | Included in the same reported promotional lineup. | Whether the retail phone accepted “Hey Gemini” rather than, or in addition to, “Hey Google.” |
What the court memorandum adds
The September 2, 2025 memorandum describes terms of the Google–Samsung agreement, including a requirement that qualified devices set the side-key long press and the hot word to invoke the Gemini app by default. It refers to “Hey Google” or “Hey Gemini” as possible invocation phrases.
This is stronger evidence that hotword integration was part of the partnership than the leaked image alone. However, it does not identify a universal user-facing setting, list every qualifying model, or establish which phrase was active for a particular S25 sold in a particular market.

Why “Hey Google” may still be the practical answer
Google’s April 19, 2025 Help Community response described “Hey Google” as Android’s primary Gemini initiation method and said the “Hey Gemini” alternative was not currently available. Community guidance can change and may not define every regional rollout, but it is an important qualification to the leak’s promise.
For troubleshooting, first use the phrase shown in the phone’s current Gemini or Assistant settings. If the device does not list “Hey Gemini,” use “Hey Google” and install the latest Samsung and Google updates available for that model and region. Do not assume that seeing Gemini in the app means a second wake phrase has been enabled.

What the leak does—and does not—confirm
Confirmed or strongly indicated
- Samsung promotional material associated “Hey, Gemini” with the Galaxy S25 series.
- The reported lineup included S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra.
- The marketing examples showed Gemini handling information from a YouTube video and creating a Note.
- Google and Samsung had an agreement that referenced hotword invocation through “Hey Google” or “Hey Gemini.”
Still dependent on software and region
- Whether a specific retail phone responds to “Hey Gemini.”
- Whether “Hey Gemini” can be selected as a separate hotword.
- Which cross-app extensions are enabled and which apps they support.
- Whether behavior is identical across S25 models, carriers, countries and firmware versions.
How to check your own Galaxy S25
- Open the Gemini app and review its assistant and voice settings.
- Check the phone’s default digital-assistant and side-key settings to see which app opens on invocation.
- Look for an explicitly listed “Hey Gemini” option. If it is absent, “Hey Google” is the supported phrase shown by the current software.
- Update Google, Gemini and Samsung system software, then recheck after the update completes.
Menus can differ by One UI release, device language and country. A missing option is therefore evidence about that installation, not proof that no S25 anywhere supports the phrase.
The Bottom Line
The leak showed Samsung intended to promote “Hey, Gemini” on the Galaxy S25 family, but it did not by itself confirm a universally available wake phrase. The safest current conclusion is that “Hey Google” remains the dependable Android trigger unless the specific S25’s software explicitly offers “Hey Gemini.”
