The reported $814 quote cannot be verified from the information available: the insurer, billing period, policy details, driver and vehicle are unknown. A high price by itself does not prove a scam. Before judging the offer, get its terms in writing and compare it with quotes built on the same coverage and driver information.
What is known about the $814 quote?
The title describes an 18-year-old in Nevada being quoted $814 for auto insurance and calls it “a flat-out scam.” The original post or quote document was not located, so the amount, its source and the characterization are not independently verified. What to do if the insurer made an adverse underwriting decision
A quote a customer dislikes does not automatically qualify as an adverse underwriting decision. For a decision that does fall within Nevada Administrative Code 679B.715, the responsible institution or agent must provide the specific reasons in writing or explain how to request them in writing. A written request made within 90 business days requires a response within 21 business days with reasons and specified supporting information, subject to exceptions. If that process applies, make the request in writing and keep a copy of it and the response. For a general quote review, first ask the insurer or agent to explain the rating details and correct any inaccurate information.
