NETSCOUT announced two nGeniusONE observability enhancements on January 27, 2026: deep packet inspection for Wi-Fi 7 networks at remote sites and expanded monitoring for SSL/TLS certificates. The Wi-Fi feature is intended to give IT teams application-level visibility across wired and supported wireless networks; the certificate feature is designed to surface approaching expirations and certificates that may be unknown to IT. These are capabilities described by NETSCOUT, not independently verified performance or outage-reduction results.
What NETSCOUT announced
NETSCOUT’s January 27, 2026 announcement describes real-time deep packet inspection through nGeniusONE over Ethernet or Wi-Fi 7, alongside expanded SSL/TLS certificate monitoring. The announcement presents both changes as ways to improve visibility and help IT teams identify emerging issues.
The Wi-Fi capability comes through new nGenius Edge Sensors with Wi-Fi 7 support. NETSCOUT says they are also backward compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi 5. The sensor is monitoring equipment, not an access point: its role is to provide observability into application performance on supported networks.
What Wi-Fi 7 monitoring is meant to show
At a remote location, application-level visibility can help an IT team investigate how critical applications behave over a wireless connection, rather than seeing only that a site or device is connected. NETSCOUT describes the sensor and nGeniusONE as providing real-time deep packet inspection across supported wired and wireless networks. The announcement does not publish independent measurements of performance or demonstrate that the feature prevents outages.

Using a pilot to compare Wi-Fi generations
Network World’s January 29, 2026 report says sensor data can show per-application behavior by location and could help organizations compare Wi-Fi 7 pilots with Wi-Fi 6 before a wider rollout. That is a potential planning use, not evidence that Wi-Fi 7 will improve performance in every environment. Results would depend on the site, applications, network configuration, and the measurements available to the team.
How certificate lifecycle monitoring works
NETSCOUT says the enhanced nGeniusONE certificate monitor provides real-time insight into SSL/TLS certificates, flags certificates nearing expiration, and can discover certificates that may be unknown to IT. The company specifically includes certificates on non-standard ports and those associated with shadow IT.

That visibility matters because websites, APIs, and other services can be interrupted when a certificate they rely on expires without being renewed. Finding certificates that are outside an organization’s expected inventory may help teams bring them into a tracking and renewal process. NETSCOUT describes the capability as supporting prevention, but its announcement does not provide independent before-and-after outage data.

The announcement links the two features to broader visibility gaps: limited application monitoring at remote wireless sites and incomplete knowledge of certificates in use. NETSCOUT cited a BCC Research forecast that the Wi-Fi 7 market would grow at a 61.5% compound annual growth rate between 2025 and 2030. It also cited a Ponemon Institute figure that 51% of organizations do not know how many digital certificates they have. These figures are cited by NETSCOUT; the underlying BCC and Ponemon publications were not independently checked here.

- 【WIFI Signal Scanning Tester】The analyzer is made of sturdy and material. It features a 4-inch TFT color display that shows wifi signals in the 2.4G for frequency range, along with the number of wifi networks occupying the same for frequency point. The display updates automatically.
- 【 Power Display】The analyzer has a display function, with the power conveniently shown in the upper right corner of the screen.
- 【Long Life】Equipped with a 600mAh luminous , the analyzer has a working current of 160mA and a standby time of about 4 hours.
- 【Charging Indicator Light】The analyzer can be charged using the TYPE-C port, and it is equipped with a lithium-ion charging management circuit. The charging time is approximately 2 hours. The red light indicates that the analyzer is charging, while the green light indicates a full charge.
- 【Easy to Use】Simply press and hold the button to turn on/off the analyzer. Pressing the button once starts the scanning process, and pressing it again pauses the scanning. The display shows the wifi signals at various frequencies in the 4G range, with a number displayed if multiple signals occupy the same for frequency point. The bottom waveform represents 5G signals.
Heather Broughton, NETSCOUT’s vice president of product marketing, told Network World: “Shadow IT brings risk and it also brings opportunity to see things that you haven’t been able to see.” NETSCOUT product manager Phil Gray said in the company release: “Through our observability solutions, we’re helping organizations master their complex networks by shifting from reactive fixes to preventative operations,” These are statements from NETSCOUT representatives, not independent assessments of product outcomes.

Organizations assessing the announcement against their own requirements should check whether the supported network generations match their sites, how application visibility is gathered at remote locations, and whether certificate discovery covers the ports and environments they need to track. They should also ask about alerting and renewal workflows, integration with existing operations, deployment effort, licensing, and current sensor specifications and availability directly with NETSCOUT.
