NETGEAR can alert you when personal information you add to its Dark Web Monitoring feature appears in breach data or other online sources. The feature is part of a paid NETGEAR Armor subscription, powered by Bitdefender. It can help you respond to a detected exposure, but it cannot stop a breach or remove information from third-party sites.
What NETGEAR Dark Web Monitoring does
Dark Web Monitoring checks identifiers you submit against breach data and other online sources. If it finds a match, NETGEAR says it can tell you what information was exposed and where it was found, along with recommended next steps. NETGEAR identifies Bitdefender as the technology provider for the feature (NETGEAR Armor).
NETGEAR Support says you can add up to 10 email addresses and 5 phone numbers. A breach record may include additional personal details, depending on the breach. The app also displays an Identity Protection Score ranging from 0 to 100; that score is an app feature, not a credit score (NETGEAR Support).
NETGEAR describes the feature as ongoing monitoring rather than a one-time scan. Ongoing checks may surface a match after an initial scan, but the service does not establish that every exposed record will be found.

What to do if it finds your information
An alert is a prompt to secure the affected accounts and assess what was exposed. Follow the alert’s recommendations; depending on the information and account involved, those may include changing a password and enabling multi-factor authentication. If you reused that password elsewhere, change it on those accounts too. The appropriate response depends on the specific exposure, so an alert should not be treated as a guarantee that every affected account or piece of information has been identified.
What the feature cannot do
Monitoring is reactive: it may tell you about information found in sources it checks, but it does not prevent another organization’s systems from being breached. NETGEAR says the service cannot remove information from third-party sites, either (NETGEAR’s Dark Web Monitoring FAQ).

It also does not include credit monitoring, credit reports, or credit scores, according to NETGEAR Support (NETGEAR Support FAQ). If you need those services, Dark Web Monitoring is not a substitute.

Dark Web Monitoring is included in NETGEAR Armor, a subscription associated with compatible NETGEAR routers, rather than a standalone consumer app. NETGEAR’s US service page listed annual billing at $99.99 for Armor and $149.99 for Armor Plus when checked for this article in 2026. Prices and plan inclusions can change; check the current offer and terms in the NETGEAR Armor page. NETGEAR directs customers to purchase and manage subscriptions through the Orbi or Nighthawk app.

NETGEAR says Armor is built into compatible routers, but compatibility is model-specific. Check the relevant router’s current product page for an explicit Armor listing before buying hardware for this feature.
