Netflix error NW-2-5 means your device took too long to connect to Netflix. Netflix says it usually points to an internet connection problem on the device or home network. The code identifies a connection timeout, not a specific faulty component: the device, Wi-Fi, router, DNS, internet provider, or a shared network restriction could be involved.
Check whether the affected device is online
Start with the device showing the error. If the error screen offers More Details > Check your network, run that check. A red X indicates that the device is not connected. You can also open another internet-enabled app or use the device’s network test. If those checks fail, troubleshoot the device’s internet connection before changing Netflix settings.

Restart the viewing device
- Turn off and unplug the TV, streaming device, or console.
- Wait at least 15 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on.
- Open Netflix and try again. For a cable box, Netflix specifies waiting 3 minutes before reconnecting it.
Restart the modem and router
- Turn off the viewing device.
- Unplug the modem and router from power for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect them and wait one minute before turning the viewing device back on.
- Retry Netflix. The network equipment may take longer than a minute to reconnect fully.
Work out whether the issue is Wi-Fi or the network itself
If the device works on other connections but not your home Wi-Fi, or if Wi-Fi seems unstable, improve the signal or test a wired connection if the device supports Ethernet. Moving the router nearer to the device or to a central location, raising it off the floor, and keeping it away from metal appliances and other wireless devices may help. A wireless repeater in the same room is another option; these are signal-quality measures, not guaranteed fixes.

If several devices have the same problem, or the connection fails over both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, the cause may be the network equipment, its settings, or the internet service rather than Netflix on one device. Note whether one or multiple devices are affected and whether the affected device connects by Wi-Fi or cable.
Consider shared networks and connection type
Hotel, apartment-complex, and other public or shared networks may be congested or may restrict streaming. Ask the network owner or administrator whether Netflix is allowed. Cellular, satellite, and mobile-hotspot connections may not provide a stable enough connection for streaming; ask the internet provider whether that connection supports streaming video.

Check DNS settings on PlayStation or Xbox
Netflix notes that incorrect DNS settings on PlayStation and Xbox consoles can prevent them from finding Netflix servers. Use the console’s network setup to set DNS to Automatic. For PlayStation, Netflix also specifies setting IP address and MTU to Automatic, DHCP Host Name to “Don’t Specify,” and Proxy Server to “Don’t Use.” If the error continues after checking these settings, ask your internet provider to investigate DNS.
When to contact your internet provider
If the steps above do not resolve the timeout, ask the provider to check for an area outage, modem or router problems, incorrect network settings, and DNS issues. Tell them how many devices are affected and whether the device uses Wi-Fi or a direct cable. Netflix also suggests testing fast.com in a browser and retrying Netflix before ending the support call; a speed result alone does not identify every possible cause.
