The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Lumio NCU600 is a capsule machine with hot and cold drink selection, adjustable volume and an XL setting. Its official manual lists a 1 L water tank and a maximum pressure of 15 bar. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance results: no hands-on test or comparative reliability assessment is available here.
What the Lumio NCU600 offers
The Lumio is built around the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto capsule system. Its controls include a hot/cold selection lever, a volume selector and display, and an XL volume option. The manual illustrates drinks including espresso, cappuccino, chococino and cappuccino ice, with recipes that use either one or two capsules. These examples are not a complete catalogue of drinks currently sold in every market.
The manual recommends choosing the bar setting shown on the capsule pack or adjusting the volume to taste. You can stop extraction manually. It says the indicator blinks red while the machine heats for about 40 seconds, then turns steady green. After making an XL drink, the manual advises waiting around 1.5 minutes before preparing another XL beverage.

Which capsules does the Lumio use?
Use capsules designed for the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto system. The manual states: “We recommend using the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® capsules designed and tested for the NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® machine.” That is the manufacturer’s recommendation; it does not establish compatibility or safety for third-party or refillable capsules. Check the capsule packaging for the drink’s hot or cold setting and suggested volume.

Cleaning and descaling
Routine cleaning
Rinse the capsule holder after preparing a drink. The manual says the capsule holder may be washed in a dishwasher, but the water tank and drip tray are not dishwasher proof. The machine overview also identifies a rinsing tool and cleaning needle.
When and how to descale
The manual recommends descaling at least every 3–4 months with liquid NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto descaler. It says to mix the descaler with 0.5 L of fresh drinking water and explicitly warns: “Do not use vinegar for descaling!” Follow the complete procedure in the manual for your machine and use locally applicable product instructions.

Troubleshooting common problems
No liquid comes out
- Check that the water tank contains water.
- If the tank is filled and flow still does not resume, stop preparation and follow the manual’s blocked-capsule and injector procedure. A capsule may be under pressure; follow its safety steps, release pressure as directed, and clean the injector with the supplied cleaning needle.
- Do not drink coffee affected by a blocked capsule. Use the manual’s instructions rather than forcing open a pressurized capsule holder.
The indicator flashes red quickly
The manual directs you to unplug the machine and wait 20 minutes. If the problem persists, contact official support.

What this review can—and cannot—establish
The manual provides useful operating and care guidance, but it cannot establish how the Lumio performs in everyday use. No hands-on evaluation or independent comparison is available here, so there are no tested claims about taste, noise, temperature consistency, speed beyond the manufacturer’s warm-up guidance, durability or reliability.
Current NCU600 pricing, local availability, country-specific warranty terms and actual replacement-part stock are also not established. Check with a local retailer or NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto support before relying on any of those details. When asking about parts, provide the model and the machine’s EDG/Type/NCU identifier; NESCAFÉ Australia says identifiers help support identify a machine, but that does not confirm NCU600 parts are in stock.
