The Nescafé Dolce Gusto Genio S Touch is a compact capsule coffee machine with the most controls in the Genio S family, according to the manufacturer’s own product material. This review covers the Japan-market model sold under the code EF1058. Nestlé Japan lists it with hand-drip mode, temperature adjustment, auto-stop, scheduled brewing, an 800 ml water tank and a 1450 W rating.
This is a feature and ownership review. It is not a taste test. Nothing here is based on hands-on brewing, so brew quality, speed, noise and durability are deliberately left unscored. The verdict rests on published specifications, the control set and the running costs of a capsule system.
Which machine this review covers
“Genio S Touch” is used for several machines that share a name and a design family. The model reviewed here is the Japanese version, EF1058, which Nestlé Japan presents on its own product pages (nestle.jp Genio S Touch page and Nestlé Japan product information for EF1058).
Specifications, voltage, bundle contents and prices belong to that market. The Spanish and UK pages for the same name show De’Longhi and Krups variants with their own manuals and listings. Do not assume a machine bought elsewhere matches the Japanese figures. Check the model code and rating label on the unit you are buying before relying on any number in this article.

Key specifications (Japan, EF1058)
| Attribute | Value listed by Nestlé Japan |
|---|---|
| Model code | EF1058 |
| Approximate size | 11.2 cm wide, 28.7 cm deep, 27.2 cm high |
| Approximate weight | About 2.1 kg |
| Water tank capacity | 800 ml |
| Power rating | 1450 W |
| Electrical input | 100 V, 50/60 Hz |
The 100 V input is the key practical detail. A machine built for the Japanese supply will not suit most mains sockets elsewhere without a verified voltage match, so confirm the label before ordering from abroad.
Control features
The Touch’s appeal is the level of control it gives over the cup. Nestlé Japan lists four functions that set it apart from the simpler machines in the range.
Temperature adjustment and hand-drip mode
The Japanese listing includes temperature adjustment and a hand-drip mode. Hand-drip mode is the main feature Nestlé Japan foregrounds, and it is the one most likely to matter to someone who wants a different style of cup from a standard capsule shot. The manufacturer does not publish brew temperatures or extraction results for either setting, so treat both as controls, not measured outcomes.

Auto-stop ends the brew automatically. It is a convenience feature rather than a quality setting, and it is listed for the Japanese model only.
Scheduled brewing and app pairing
Nestlé Japan describes pairing the machine with its app to adjust extraction amount and temperature, save recipes and set a timer for scheduled brewing. These are advertised functions. The manufacturer does not state how reliably the app connects, which phone systems it supports over time, or how long the app will be maintained, so check the app listing before relying on scheduled brewing every morning.

How the Touch compares with Genio S and Genio S Plus
The clearest comparison within the Genio S family comes from NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Spain’s product FAQ for the Genio S Touch (dolce-gusto.es Genio S Touch page and FAQ). That source describes the standard Genio S as having two temperature levels and an XL preparation function, while the Genio S Plus and Touch add four temperature levels and Espresso Boost. Only the Touch adds a touch control panel.
| Feature | Genio S | Genio S Plus | Genio S Touch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temperature levels | Two (Spain FAQ) | Four (Spain FAQ) | Four (Spain FAQ) |
| Espresso Boost | Not stated | Yes (Spain FAQ) | Yes (Spain FAQ) |
| Touch control panel | Not stated | Not stated | Yes (Spain FAQ) |
| Hand-drip mode | Not stated | Not stated | Yes (Nestlé Japan, EF1058) |
| App pairing and scheduled brewing | Not stated | Not stated | Yes (Nestlé Japan, EF1058) |
| Electrical input | Not stated | Not stated | 100 V, 50/60 Hz (Nestlé Japan, EF1058) |
The two sources describe the same family from different markets, and they emphasise different features. Spain’s Touch page describes the XL function as preparing drinks up to 300 ml and describes Espresso Boost as pre-wetting the coffee before brewing. Nestlé Japan’s page instead highlights hand-drip mode and app-based scheduling. Each feature is accurate for its own market, so treat them as separate lists rather than one universal set.

The Touch makes the most sense for someone who wants a touchscreen and more control over the cup. A buyer who does not need the touch panel, hand-drip mode or scheduling may find the standard Genio S or Genio S Plus covers their needs, provided the local price and exact features for that model match.
Using the machine day to day
Nestlé Japan’s own instructions describe a simple sequence. The steps below follow that description. Check your own manual for exact button labels and the order of the screens.
- Insert a capsule into the holder.
- Select the temperature and the amount.
- Touch the brew control to start.
- After use, remove the capsule and rinse the holder.
Capsule system and running costs
The Touch belongs to the Dolce Gusto Original system. Nestlé Japan presents it that way and links a capsule range and drink guide. The Spanish Touch listing says it works with Original capsules and names a NEO Start adapter as a second route in that market. Do not assume universal NEO compatibility. Check the capsule type and adapter against your exact local machine and catalogue before buying.

- STRONG BREW: Brew a stronger, more intense cup.
- BREWS MULTIPLE CUP SIZES: Brew an 8, 10, or 12 oz. cup at the push of a button.
- MULTIPLE CUP WATER RESERVOIR: 42oz. removable reservoir lets you brew up to 4* cups before refilling. *8 oz. cup size
- FAST & FRESH BREWED: Coffee made in minutes.
- TRAVEL MUG FRIENDLY: Removable drip tray accommodates travel mugs up to 7.4” tall.
The machine price and the capsule cost are separate budgets. Running costs depend on the pack price in your market, how many servings each pack gives and which recipe you choose, so this review does not give a per-cup figure. Working one out is a simple exercise once you have a current local pack price in hand. A variety bundle can help a new owner try the range, but bundle contents differ by retailer and market.

Cleaning, descaling and troubleshooting
Rinsing and descaling
Nestlé Japan’s routine care includes rinsing the capsule holder after each use. For descaling, NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Spain gives the following recommendation for the Genio S Touch:
“Para mantener tu máquina de café GENIO®S TOUCH NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto®, se recomienda descalcificarla regularmente (cada 2 a 3 meses) con el kit de descalcificación para máquinas de café NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto®.”

In English, this is a translated paraphrase: Spain recommends regular descaling every two to three months with the brand’s descaling kit. This interval is a Spanish-market recommendation. Use the descaling schedule in the manual for your own machine, because the interval may differ elsewhere.
The UK manufacturer’s documentation index lists separate manuals for the Genio S Touch in Krups and De’Longhi versions (dolce-gusto.co.uk machine documentation). The UK care page for the De’Longhi version covers setup, cleaning, descaling and troubleshooting (dolce-gusto.co.uk Genio S Touch care page). Use the manual that matches your unit, not a general video for the model family.
If water does not flow
The Spanish FAQ answers the question “What should I do if water does not flow from my Genio S Touch?” with a two-step check:
- Run the machine without a capsule to see whether water comes through.
- If the problem continues, clean the injector with the cleaning needle supplied with the machine.
If neither step fixes the flow, follow the troubleshooting section of your local manual before contacting support.
Price, colours and warranty
Prices and bundles change quickly, and the Japanese listing is a local reference only. Nestlé Japan’s product page showed a ¥21,780 tax-included price when it was checked for this article. Treat that figure as a dated Japanese listing, not a guaranteed or international street price.

- BREWS MULTIPLE CUP SIZES: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12oz Enjoy the most popular cup sizes.

Colours also differ between listings. The Nestlé Japan product page lists red metal, space gray and white. The Japanese bundle page lists red metal and space gray. Confirm the colour and included capsules with the seller before buying.
The Spanish product page states a three-year warranty for the Spanish market. That term does not apply to machines bought in other countries. Check the warranty terms for your country and retailer before purchase.
What this review does not test
The official sources give specifications, control names and care advice. They do not provide independent measurements of brew temperature, brew time, sound level or long-term reliability, and they do not offer a blind taste comparison. This article therefore makes no claims about cup quality, speed, noise or durability. A review that adds those judgements would need a named unit, a stated market, a fixed water and capsule choice, a repeatable method and clearly labelled personal observations.

Verdict
The Genio S Touch, in its Japanese EF1058 form, is a compact capsule machine with the widest control set in the Genio S family, based on the manufacturer’s own listings. Its strengths are touch control, hand-drip mode, auto-stop, scheduled brewing and app-based recipes. Its main trade-off is the Dolce Gusto capsule system, which makes the running cost a continuing expense rather than a one-off purchase.
It suits a buyer who wants those controls and accepts ongoing capsule costs. It is a weaker fit for someone who does not need a touch panel or scheduling. Before buying, confirm the voltage, the model code, the warranty and the current price for your country.
