Neeraj Chauhan won bronze in the men’s individual recurve event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on 3 October 2026, beating fellow Indian Dhiraj Bommadevara 6–4 in a five-end match. Chauhan recovered from a two-set deficit to secure the medal.
How Chauhan beat Bommadevara for bronze
The all-Indian bronze match was decided on set points, not by adding the archers’ arrow scores across the entire match. The official match record gives Chauhan the 6–4 victory and records these five ends:
| End | Bommadevara | Chauhan | Set points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 26 | 29 | 0–2 |
| 2 | 28 | 27 | 2–0 |
| 3 | 29 | 28 | 2–0 |
| 4 | 28 | 30 | 0–2 |
| 5 | 28 | 29 | 0–2 |
After losing the first three ends by score—winning only the opening end—Chauhan needed to take the final two. He did so with 30–28 in the fourth and 29–28 in the fifth, turning the match around and finishing with four consecutive set-point wins after Bommadevara’s two-end lead.

Why the bronze mattered to India
Hindustan Times reported that Chauhan’s medal was India’s first individual men’s recurve medal at the Asian Games in 16 years, since Tarundeep Rai won silver at Guangzhou 2010. That historical framing is the outlet’s account; the official event pages cited here establish the Aichi-Nagoya match, not a complete comparison of results from every previous Games.
