A VPN is not a verified or NBA-endorsed way to unlock blacked-out League Pass games. NBA says it uses the accessing device’s IP address or, when enabled, location services to determine blackout eligibility. In the United States and Canada, some games are unavailable live on League Pass because broadcasters hold exclusive rights. Check your local availability and use the listed broadcaster for the game instead.
Can a VPN unlock NBA League Pass?
There is no reliable, official basis for calling any VPN a League Pass blackout solution. NBA’s guidance explains that location checks may use your device’s IP address or location services, but it does not verify VPN compatibility, endorse a provider, or publish comparative VPN performance results. A VPN therefore cannot be promised to bypass a blackout, and changing your apparent network location does not change the game’s authorized availability for your location.
There is also a contractual risk. The NBA League Pass and NBA TV Subscriber Agreement for subscribers outside the United States says an attempted blackout circumvention may result in immediate subscription termination, a $100 early termination charge, and possible legal action. That clause is specific to the outside-U.S. agreement; it should not be treated as a legal conclusion about every territory or every individual VPN use. Read the agreement applicable to your subscription before making decisions.

Blackouts reflect exclusive broadcast rights, not a problem with your subscription. The NBA’s blackout guide, updated October 6, 2026, says the rules apply in the United States and Canada. The precise restriction depends on the game and your location.

Where to watch a blacked-out game instead
Use the broadcaster that holds the rights to that game in your area. The NBA lists possible destinations, but the correct option varies by game, territory, and schedule.

- Open the NBA League Pass package page and enter your ZIP code.
- Review the local NBA team blackout information shown for that location.
- For a specific game, check the NBA schedule and the regional sports network or national broadcaster carrying it.
Check Canadian national broadcasts
Consult the Canadian broadcast schedule and confirm which listed broadcaster carries the game. A League Pass subscription does not remove a live national-broadcast blackout.

What to do if a blackout seems incorrect
If a game appears blacked out despite your location or the listing you checked, the NBA recommends troubleshooting the location determination rather than trying to evade it. Try these steps:
- Open the game in another browser or on another platform.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- If you are using the NBA app, reinstall it.
- Restart your network equipment.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then check the game again.
If the restriction persists, consult NBA support and the broadcaster’s current listing for that game. These steps may help resolve an incorrect location result; they do not make a legitimately blacked-out game available live.
