To use Zelle with Navy Federal, sign in to its mobile app or online banking and go to Move Money > Zelle. Enroll an email address or U.S. mobile number, verify it with the code Navy Federal sends, then add or select a recipient and confirm the payment details before sending. Zelle is best for sending money to people you know and trust—not for paying strangers or buying goods.
What you need before enrolling
- A Navy Federal checking or savings account and access to Navy Federal digital banking. Navy Federal says users must be at least 18; its terms specify a checking account and authority to authorize debits and credits. See Navy Federal’s Zelle service page and Zelle terms and conditions.
- An email address or U.S. mobile number to enroll and verify.
- If your email address or number is already enrolled through another financial institution, contact Navy Federal Zelle support for instructions on moving it.
Navy Federal says it does not charge a fee to send money with Zelle, though normal account fees, such as overdraft fees, may still apply. Zelle cannot send money to a bank account outside the United States. Someone with a U.S. bank account enrolled in Zelle may receive money while abroad. Details and eligibility are on Navy Federal’s Zelle page.

How to send money
- From the Zelle section, select an existing recipient or choose the option to add a new contact.
- For a new contact, enter the recipient’s information, save it, and review the details.
- Enter the amount you want to send.
- Before confirming, check the displayed recipient and email address or U.S. mobile number carefully. A payment sent to the wrong person may not be recoverable.
- Confirm the payment only when the recipient and amount are correct.
When possible, ask the recipient to enroll before you send. Payments to an enrolled recipient are more likely to arrive quickly. Navy Federal’s Zelle instructions explain the send flow and warn that a mistaken transfer can result in loss of funds.

How receiving money works
If you are already enrolled with Zelle, money sent to your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number goes to your account without additional steps. If you are not enrolled, you receive a notification with instructions to enroll.
For an initial payment to an unenrolled recipient, Navy Federal says delivery may take one to three business days after the recipient enrolls. If the recipient does not enroll within 14 days, the funds are automatically returned. Later payments to that recipient typically arrive faster. These timelines are described on Navy Federal’s Zelle page.

Navy Federal Zelle limits and delivery times
Navy Federal lists separate limits for payments typically processed within minutes and payments processed on the standard one-to-three-business-day schedule. The service page does not display a publication date for these figures, and the terms say limits can vary or be adjusted.
| Processing type | Typical delivery | Published daily limit | Published 30-day limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typically processed within minutes | Within minutes | $2,000 | $12,000 |
| Standard processing | One to three business days | $3,000 | $3,000 |
These are the limits published by Navy Federal, not guaranteed allowances for every member. Check the Limits link in the Zelle section of digital banking for the amount currently available to your account. If your transfer exceeds the standard-processing limit, Navy Federal advises considering another transfer option rather than assuming you can bypass the limit. See the service page and terms.

How to handle a pending or incorrect payment
If a payment is pending
If a payment remains pending for more than three days, check that the recipient has enrolled and that you entered the correct email address or U.S. mobile number. An unenrolled recipient must complete enrollment to receive the first payment.
If you need to cancel
Navy Federal says you can cancel a payment only if the recipient has not enrolled. Once the recipient is enrolled, the payment cannot be canceled. If you sent money to the wrong person, contact that person and request its return; recovery is not assured.

Navy Federal says Zelle is not intended to replace Member-to-Member transfers for sending money to another Navy Federal member. It positions Zelle for transfers to or from friends and family with an external account. Both options appear under Send Money. Consider the recipient, transfer amount, your current Zelle limit, and whether the payment is for a trusted person or a purchase before choosing a method.
