Naomi Osaka is the pick to reach the China Open fourth round, but Sara Bejlek arrives with two notable 2026 results of her own. Their third-round match is a first meeting, so there is no head-to-head record to settle the matchup. Osaka’s Beijing title gives her the stronger history at this event; Bejlek’s Abu Dhabi title and Cincinnati semifinal make her more than a routine test.
When does Osaka play Bejlek?
Osaka and Bejlek are scheduled to meet in the third round of the China Open in Beijing. The WTA’s tournament guide places third-round play on October 4–5, 2026, but the fixture’s exact day, court and start time are not established here. Check the live WTA order of play for the confirmed schedule.

Osaka’s win over Timofeeva was her first match since losing to eventual champion Elena Rybakina at the US Open. She told the WTA, “It was a tough match,” and said it was hard to get her bearings because she had not played since New York. Bejlek’s straight-sets win over Inglis was her Beijing debut. The Czech’s 2026 season also includes her first career title, in Abu Dhabi in February, and a semifinal run in Cincinnati in August. Those results offer a stronger indication of her recent accomplishments than her Beijing experience, which is limited to this tournament debut. Osaka vs Bejlek head-to-head

Osaka’s experience in Beijing
Osaka won the China Open in 2019, giving her a meaningful event-history edge over Bejlek, who is making her Beijing debut. That history is a useful point of context, not a guarantee that conditions or form will reproduce the earlier result.

Bejlek has already won a first career title and reached a WTA 1000 semifinal this year. Her two-set opening win also took less time than Osaka’s three-set match. The shorter match means Bejlek spent less time on court in Beijing; it does not by itself establish a physical or performance advantage for the next round.

Uncertainty in a first meeting
With no prior matchup, neither player has a direct result against the other to build on. The available match information does not establish a reliable serve, return or surface-statistical edge, so the preview should not imply one.
