Neither Name.com nor Namecheap is a proven universal winner for hosting in 2026. Namecheap’s entry-level shared hosting may appeal if low initial cost is your priority, while Name.com offers shared hosting plus separate managed WordPress and DigitalOcean-powered cloud options. Choose by comparing the plan limits and renewal cost for the product you actually need—not by treating introductory prices, uptime guarantees, or different hosting formats as like-for-like evidence.
How to compare Name.com and Namecheap
The practical choice depends on your site count, storage and email requirements, backups, billing horizon, and whether shared hosting is enough. The providers’ tiers do not match one-to-one, so compare the terms that affect your own site rather than relying on a broad “unlimited” label.
- For one small site: Check that the plan includes enough storage and email accounts, and compare the renewal price over the period you expect to keep hosting.
- For several sites: Compare the published website limits and storage terms. Namecheap lists three sites on Stellar and unlimited sites on Stellar Plus and Stellar Business; Name.com lists one site on Personal, 25 on Premium, and unlimited sites on Business.
- For backups: Check which tier includes them and what restore points are available. Backup coverage is not identical across plans.
- For WordPress or cloud hosting: Compare equivalent products. Name.com’s managed WordPress and DigitalOcean-powered cloud hosting are distinct from its shared plans and should not be evaluated as if they were entry-level shared hosting.
Compare shared-hosting plan limits
The following are provider-listed plan terms, not independent assessments of how much capacity a site will achieve in practice. “Unlimited” and “unmetered” are plan labels subject to provider terms, not a promise of infinite usable resources.

Compare price over the billing term
Do not compare a first-cycle promotional price from one provider with the other provider’s renewal rate. Name.com’s listed shared-hosting sale prices are for the first billing cycle and the plans are billed annually. Namecheap’s figures below are renewal prices, not introductory offers; its notice says they apply to invoices on or after May 19, 2026.
| Provider and plan | Advertised price | Billing qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Name.com Personal | $6/month sale; $7/month regular | Annual billing; sale price applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page, checked October 7, 2026. |
| Name.com Premium | $8/month sale; $11/month regular | Annual billing; sale price applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page, checked October 7, 2026. |
| Name.com Business | $13/month sale; $18/month regular | Annual billing; sale price applies only to the first billing cycle. Name.com plan page, checked October 7, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar | $5.88 monthly; $55.88 yearly; $102.88 for two years | Renewal prices in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; apply to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar Plus | $7.88 monthly; $85.44 yearly; $146.44 for two years | Renewal prices in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; apply to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
| Namecheap Stellar Business | $11.88 monthly; $128.88 yearly; $251.88 for two years | Renewal prices in Namecheap’s notice updated May 8, 2026; apply to invoices on or after May 19, 2026. |
These figures are not a complete checkout comparison: promotional eligibility, taxes, add-ons, and current checkout totals may affect what you pay. Before committing, compare the amount due now and the renewal amount for the billing period you plan to use.
Backups, hosting formats, and guarantees
Backups vary by plan
Name.com advertises free automated backups on its shared-hosting page. Namecheap identifies AutoBackup on Stellar Plus and Stellar Business and describes daily, weekly, and monthly restore points. The cited information does not establish identical backup coverage across all tiers, so confirm the feature and restore terms for the exact plan you select.

Shared hosting is not managed WordPress or cloud hosting
Name.com lists cPanel shared hosting, managed WordPress, and cloud hosting powered by DigitalOcean. Namecheap describes shared hosting with cPanel and one-click CMS support, and also offers WordPress and other hosting formats. Those products differ in hosting model; a meaningful comparison should match shared hosting against shared hosting, or compare equivalent managed WordPress or cloud products separately.

Uptime guarantees are not measured uptime
Name.com advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee, while Namecheap advertises a 100% uptime guarantee for shared hosting. These are vendor guarantee claims, not independently observed uptime results. The percentages alone do not show that one service is more reliable; review each provider’s guarantee terms and exclusions instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which provider should you choose?
Choose based on the plan and price you can verify
- Consider Namecheap Stellar if its three-site, 20 GB SSD, and 30-mailbox limits suit your needs and its renewal cost works for your intended term.
- Consider Name.com Personal if you need one site and its listed storage and email limits meet your requirements; account for its first-cycle sale price and regular annual price.
- For more sites or resources, compare the exact limits and backup terms on the relevant higher tiers. Do not assume that a plan labeled unlimited has no practical or contractual constraints.
- If you want managed WordPress or cloud infrastructure, evaluate Name.com’s distinct options against the equivalent product from Namecheap rather than using shared-hosting prices as a proxy.
No independent side-by-side performance figures establish a speed or reliability winner here, and the provider pages do not settle which has better customer support. Treat any decision on those points as unresolved rather than inferring it from plan labels or guarantee percentages.

What to verify before checkout
- Confirm the exact product and tier: shared hosting, managed WordPress, or cloud hosting.
- Check the live billing period, amount due today, and renewal price for that same period.
- Match website count, storage, databases, and email limits to your site’s needs.
- Confirm whether backups are included on that tier and review restore-point and recovery terms.
- Review current refund eligibility and service-guarantee terms. Name.com states that all plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee; confirm current eligibility and terms before relying on that statement.
