NABVENTURES announced the first close of NABVENTURES Fund II on October 8, 2026, with commitments of ₹450 crore. The fund’s target corpus is ₹1,500 crore, including a green-shoe option, and NABARD is named as the anchor investor. These terms come from a distributed press release and an Inc42 report published the same day. A first-party announcement from NABVENTURES was not located, so the figures below should be read as reported rather than independently confirmed.

The first close is ₹450 crore; the target is ₹1,500 crore

The two numbers in the headline measure different things. The ₹450 crore is the amount committed at the first close, a point at which a fund has signed up initial investors. The ₹1,500 crore is the target corpus the fund is aiming for, and the release says it includes a green-shoe option. A green-shoe is typically an additional allocation a fund can accept above its base size, but the available reports do not state the size or conditions of the option for Fund II.

Keeping these figures apart matters. Reporting that the fund has “raised ₹1,500 crore” would be wrong. Nothing in the announcement material indicates that the full target has been committed.

Who is backing the fund

NABARD, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, is described as the anchor investor. An anchor investor is usually the first institution to commit a large sum, which often helps other investors decide to participate. The available material does not name any other investors in Fund II, nor does it say how the ₹450 crore is split among them.

What the fund is meant to invest in

According to the press release, Fund II will back early- and growth-stage companies that use technology, scalable business models, and sustainable solutions to address challenges in agricultural value chains and rural markets.

Stages

  • Early-stage companies
  • Growth-stage companies

Sectors named in the announcement

  • Agri-tech
  • Food and agribusiness
  • Rural fintech
  • Climate-smart solutions
  • Supply chain and logistics
  • Other innovations driving rural transformation

The list is a statement of mandate. It does not show how capital will be allocated across these sectors.

The impact goals stated by NABARD

NABARD Chairman Dr. Shaji Krishnan V is quoted in the release describing the goals the fund is intended to serve:

  • Productivity gains in agriculture
  • Stronger value chains
  • Improved farmer incomes
  • Resilient rural enterprises
  • Sustainability and climate resilience
  • Financial inclusion
  • Livelihood creation

These are objectives. Neither the release nor the Inc42 report presents measured results from Fund II, and the fund has not yet made the investments that would be needed to produce them. The chairman’s sentence on the milestone reads: “The successful First Close of NABVENTURES Fund II at INR 450 crore marks an important milestone in NABARD’s continued commitment to fostering innovation across India’s agriculture and rural economy.” That quote is attributed to the distributed release.

How to read the “23 enterprises” figure

The release says NABVENTURES’ earlier funds have collectively backed 23 innovative enterprises. The source does not provide a dated portfolio list or define how the count is made, for example whether follow-on investments are counted separately. The figure describes the earlier funds, not Fund II, and it is not a return or performance measure.

What is not yet established

The available announcement material does not state the following, so none should be assumed:

  • The size and terms of the green-shoe option
  • The identity or number of investors other than NABARD
  • The fund’s duration or term
  • The pace at which capital will be deployed
  • The fee structure
  • When or whether a final close will take place
