Ultrasound paperwork can follow a clinical shift long after the scan is finished. The title describes a personal attempt to ease that burden by writing a program, but the available information does not identify the software, explain how it works, or establish that it reduced late departures. What can be said with confidence is that ultrasound documentation is part of the clinical record—not merely administrative cleanup—and that better-designed workflows may help prevent missing documentation.
Why ultrasound paperwork is more than a form to finish
An ultrasound examination produces information that must be recorded, retained, and communicated. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), in its 2025-revision practice parameter published January 10, 2026, says relevant normal and abnormal images should be stored in retrievable form, preferably electronically. Image records should include identifiers and examination metadata, such as the facility, date and time, thermal and mechanical index, and appropriate anatomy, laterality, and orientation labels. A retained worksheet should identify the patient, examination date and time, and the people who performed the examination and completed the worksheet. AIUM practice parameters
The report has a distinct professional role. AIUM states: “A signed final report with the ultrasound findings and impression should be included in the patient’s medical record and is the definitive documentation of the study.” The parameter describes report content that may include the ordering provider, facility, clinical information and indication, examination date and time, examination performed, methods where relevant, procedures, measurements, findings, and conclusion or impression. Applicable reports should also address follow-up recommendations, missing standard views, comparison with prior imaging, and significant communications. If local standards do not specify availability, AIUM suggests that the final report be available within 24 hours; that is guidance, not a universal regulatory deadline.

What a program can—and cannot—take off someone’s plate
A useful documentation program can be aimed at repetitive workflow tasks: organizing structured fields, prompting for incomplete notes, transferring measurements, routing a report for review, or helping archive images. Those functions can support completeness, but they do not make the clinical judgment or replace the signed final report required in the medical record.

- Convenient Upside-Down Gel Bottle: Innovative bottom groove design fits 52mm gel bottles to be placed upside down for easy dispensing (NOTE: THE GEL BOTTLE iS NOT INCLUDED), so that increase the heating efficiency markedly
- Real-Time Temperature Display: LED screen clearly shows current temperature, allowing quick and accurate adjustments during procedures
- Precise Temperature Control: Adjustable temperature range (93-113℉) ensures optimal gel temperature for users comfort and effective ultrasound imaging
- Overtemperature Protection Alarm: Built-in safety feature automatically alerts when the heating barrel exceeds 122℉, preventing overheating risks
- Safe & User-Friendly Design: One-touch reset can restore factory settings to 104℉, ensuring safety and convenience for all users
The personal story in the title does not establish what its program actually does, whether it is used with real patient information, or how much time it saves. It would be inaccurate to infer a particular feature set or clinical effect from the fact that someone wrote software in response to a paperwork problem.
What published workflow examples show
Published examples suggest that workflow design can address documentation gaps, though results from one setting should not be treated as a guarantee for another.

| Example | What it reported | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Cleveland Clinic Health System emergency departments, 2025 | A retrospective review of 5,013 point-of-care ultrasound examinations across 12 emergency departments reported procedure-note deficiency falling from 4.44% before an automated EMR in-basket reminder workflow to 1.45% after it began on June 1, 2023. The reminders remained until the note was completed. | The absolute reduction was 3.0 percentage points in that system. The study describes a specific workflow and setting; it does not establish that the same result will occur elsewhere. Study report |
| CHEST conference abstract, 2023 | A six-step workflow linked an EMR order, patient verification, image export to PACS, a preliminary report, and attending review and co-signature. It reported an average of 65 documented studies per month over 22 months after implementation, compared with eight per month in January and February 2021 before the intervention. | These figures describe documentation volume, not time saved or improved clinical outcomes. CHEST abstract |
| Reporting-software implementation abstract, 2018 | An implementation mapped 128 fields across 39 templates to transfer measurements into reporting software. It reported utilization of 86–96% among technologists, 92–93% among radiologists, and 95–96% among residents. | These are adoption figures for that implementation, not a general estimate of time saved or errors prevented. Other published guidance covers report structure and content, including a sonographer-reporting guideline for Australia and New Zealand. Reporting roles differ across those countries, so the guideline should not be read as a universal scope-of-practice rule. Guideline for sonographers

For a clinic or health system considering software, the key question is not simply whether it can produce a report. It is whether the workflow fits the equipment and record systems already in use, supports review and sign-off, and reliably captures the required information.

- System compatibility: Check how the software works with the existing EMR, PACS, and ultrasound equipment.
- Data and templates: Confirm how it handles measurement transfer, structured fields, and the templates used for different examinations.
- Review and sign-off: Establish who reviews, completes, and signs the final report, and how incomplete documentation is routed or flagged.
- Recordkeeping: Verify that images and reports can be retained and retrieved with the identifiers and details required by applicable professional and local standards.
- Implementation: Account for template mapping, staff training, and changes to established workflows.
- Privacy and local requirements: Assess the actual system and jurisdiction before using patient data; general workflow examples do not establish that a particular program is legally sufficient, compliant, or clinically validated.
AIUM guidance is US-oriented, while professional roles and institutional requirements vary by jurisdiction. No like-for-like independent product comparison is established by the available sources.

Commercial ultrasound reporting software exists. For example, GE HealthCare’s ViewPoint 6 product sheet describes workflow and standardization benefits and estimates about five minutes of post-exam documentation per study. That figure is a vendor claim, not an independently established benchmark. ViewPoint 6 product sheet

Likewise, vendor-described measurement-transfer workflows show that automation is available in some products; they do not validate the unnamed program in the title or establish what it can safely do. A personal effort to reduce paperwork is a relatable software-development story, but its results should not be quantified without evidence about the actual tool and its use.
