MSI announced two distinct QD-OLED directions at CES 2025: the MPG 272URX, a 27-inch-class 4K monitor running at 240Hz, and the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50, a QHD model built for 500Hz esports play. The first prioritizes resolution and desktop detail; the second trades pixels for a higher potential refresh rate. MSI did not publish one global price or release date for every model, so availability depends on market.
What MSI announced at CES 2025
MSI’s January 2, 2025 announcement introduced the MPG 272URX QD-OLED as what the company described as the world’s first 27-inch 4K 240Hz QD-OLED monitor with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20. MSI says its five-layer tandem OLED panel uses EL Gen 3 materials, improves efficiency by up to 30%, and reaches 166 pixels per inch. The monitor supports G-SYNC Compatible and received a CES 2025 Innovation Award. MSI’s CES announcement provides those claims.
The same announcement introduced the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50, which MSI described as the world’s first 27-inch QHD 500Hz QD-OLED panel. MSI lists DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 and VESA ClearMR 21000. MSI’s CES lineup page also says the model supports G-SYNC Compatible and uses DisplayPort UHBR20 bandwidth of 80Gbps.

How the 4K 240Hz MPG 272URX is equipped
The MPG 272URX datasheet specifies a 26.5-inch flat QD-OLED panel—often marketed as a 27-inch monitor—with 3840 × 2160 resolution, 240Hz refresh and a 0.03ms GtG response time. Its listed operating refresh range is 48–240Hz. It supports both G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. The datasheet also lists DisplayHDR True Black 400, OLED Care 2.0 and Gaming Intelligence features. See MSI’s MPG 272URX specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Next-Gen QD-OLED Panel – With stunning image quality and fast response time.
- Fastest 0.03ms GtG response time and 360Hz refresh rate.
- QD Premium Color – Ensures the color meets the market standard – Delta E≤2.
- Incredible HDR visual – VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400.
- Gaming Intelligence App – Create the perfect viewing settings for your games.
For connections, MSI lists two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, USB-C with 98W power delivery, USB hubs and a headphone output. The listed warranty is three years and includes panel burn-in. That warranty detail is useful for buyers comparing OLED monitors, but warranty terms and service availability can still depend on the local market.
What the later 500Hz models add
MSI’s Computex 2025 information documents two related QHD 500Hz models in addition to the CES-announced MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50:
Rank #2
- 31.5" UHD (3840 x 2160) QD-OLED panel
- High 240Hz refresh rate, ultra-low 0.03ms GtG response time
- 1.07 billion colours (10-bit) with incredible gamut (DCI-P3 99%) & accuracy (ΔE ≤2)
- VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified
- OLED Care 2.0 & MSI Gaming Intelligence AI
| Model | Resolution and refresh | Response and certifications | Additional detail listed by MSI |
|---|---|---|---|
| MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 | QHD, 500Hz; 27-inch-class panel | 0.03ms GtG; DisplayHDR True Black 500; ClearMR 21000 | DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20; G-SYNC Compatible |
| MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 | 2560 × 1440, 500Hz; 27-inch-class panel | 0.03ms GtG; ClearMR 21000; DisplayHDR True Black 500 | AI Care Sensor |
| MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 | 2560 × 1440, 500Hz; 27-inch-class panel | 0.03ms GtG; DisplayHDR True Black 500; ClearMR 21000 | 99% DCI-P3 coverage |
These model details come from MSI’s Computex 2025 monitor lineup information. The AI Care Sensor on the MPG 271QR uses a 0.2-second image-capture interval for presence detection, according to MSI. The company says its AI Care Sensor system can detect whether someone is present and activate OLED protection or power down when no user is detected; those capabilities are not listed as a feature of every 500Hz model.

| Consideration | 4K 240Hz: MPG 272URX | QHD 500Hz: X50 models |
|---|---|---|
| Image detail | 3840 × 2160 provides more pixels for detailed games, desktop work and content creation. | 2560 × 1440 has fewer pixels to render and is easier to drive at very high frame rates. |
| Motion and play style | 240Hz is already a high refresh rate and suits players who want both sharp detail and fast motion. | 500Hz targets competitive FPS and esports, where the system and game can produce exceptionally high frame rates. |
| HDR certification listed | DisplayHDR True Black 400. | DisplayHDR True Black 500 and ClearMR 21000. |
| OLED protection details | OLED Care 2.0 is listed in the datasheet. | The MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 is specifically listed with an AI Care Sensor; do not assume this feature applies to all X50 variants. |
Choose the MPG 272URX if resolution matters for single-player games, mixed desktop use or creating content, and your graphics hardware can make good use of 4K at high refresh. Consider a QHD 500Hz option if competitive responsiveness is the priority and your PC can sustain frame rates close to the monitor’s maximum in the games you play. A 500Hz label alone does not mean a game will run at 500 frames per second; that depends on the game, settings and hardware.

Why DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 matters
MSI states that UHBR20 provides 80Gbps of total DisplayPort bandwidth and enables uncompressed 4K at 240Hz with compatible hardware. That can reduce reliance on Display Stream Compression for that mode. Getting the benefit requires a compatible graphics-card output and cable as well as the monitor; the port specification by itself does not guarantee that every connected PC supports the same resolution and refresh combination.
