The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is a 27-inch 1440p gaming monitor built around a striking combination: a 300Hz refresh rate and Mini-LED HDR backlighting with 1,152 dimming zones. It is a compelling fit for PC gamers who want both high refresh and bright, contrast-rich HDR, but dark-scene smearing, variable-refresh flicker and haloing are real drawbacks. Its console modes top out at 1440p/120Hz, and it has no USB hub or KVM.
What the MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV offers
MSI specifies a flat 27-inch Rapid VA panel with a native 2560 × 1440 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and refresh rate up to 300Hz. Mini-LED backlighting is divided into 1,152 zones, and the monitor is rated for VESA DisplayHDR 1000, 400 cd/m² SDR brightness and 1,000 cd/m² peak HDR brightness. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of every unit. MSI’s specification sheet lists a minimum response time of 0.5ms GtG; that minimum should not be read as a guarantee that every pixel transition, or every operating mode, reaches that figure.
MSI also lists Quantum Dot technology and claims 97% DCI-P3 and 152% sRGB coverage. Those gamut figures describe the manufacturer’s stated coverage, not color accuracy for a particular monitor. Its product page says: “The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV Gaming Monitor features Mini-LED technology, a 2560 × 1440 (WQHD) resolution, a 300Hz refresh rate, and AI Navigator for a boosted gaming experience.” That is MSI’s promotional description rather than an independent assessment. See MSI’s product page.

In its review published September 4, 2026, and updated September 18, 2026, RTINGS reports low input lag and quick response at most refresh rates. The 300Hz ceiling is the key draw for PC players with a system capable of producing very high frame rates; 1440p remains less demanding than 4K while offering more detail than 1080p. The panel’s minimum advertised response time alone does not establish motion clarity, however: RTINGS also observed black smearing around fast-moving objects in dark scenes. Results can vary with the game, frame rate and individual viewer. Read RTINGS’ review and test context.
#1 Best Overall
- Mini-LED – Improves HDR with full-array local dimming and 1,152 zones for deeper blacks and brighter highlights
- Rapid VA – Ensures the intensity and purity of colors when gaming
- VESA DisplayHDR 1000 – VESA-certified eye-catching details through precise contrast and shadow adjustment
- 300Hz High Refresh Rate – Delivers smooth visuals for faster in-game response
- 0.5ms (GtG, Min.) Response Time – Eliminates screen tearing and choppy frame rates
Dark scenes and variable refresh
RTINGS found distracting VRR flicker in dark scenes when frame rates fluctuate. It also noted some haloing around bright objects against dark backgrounds. These are separate effects: flicker can draw attention as the image changes, while haloing is a glow around bright elements when local dimming cannot keep the surrounding dark area perfectly uniform. Their visibility depends on content and conditions, but they matter if you often play dark, high-contrast games or are sensitive to display artifacts.
Is it good for HDR?
The combination of Mini-LED local dimming, a high peak-brightness rating and VA contrast makes HDR one of this monitor’s strongest attractions. RTINGS describes it as strong for HDR gaming, with bright highlights and deep blacks. Its review also notes that local dimming can dim the screen and that bright objects can still halo against dark backgrounds. HDR therefore brings a substantial brightness and contrast feature set, not artifact-free image control.
Rank #2
- Rapid IPS Panel – Provides 0.5ms (GtG, Min.) response time, optimizes screen colors and brightness
- 320Hz Refresh Rate – Respond faster with smoother frames
- 0.5ms (GtG, Min.) Response Time – Eliminate screen tearing and choppy frame rates
- AI Vision – The new AI Vision technology can not only reveal details in dark areas but also enhance overall brightness and saturate colors
- Less Blue Light – Use a software solution to reduce the light emission in the blue-violet region of the blue light spectrum
Console gaming: 1440p up to 120Hz
The two HDMI 2.1 ports support console connections, but the listed console modes are 1080p and 1440p at 60Hz or 120Hz—not 300Hz. MSI also lists HDMI CEC and VRR support for PS5 and Xbox. The 300Hz maximum applies to PC signal support over HDMI or DisplayPort; it should not be mistaken for the console refresh ceiling. Check your console’s output settings and the game’s supported modes to determine which resolution and refresh combination it can use.

Ports, stand and everyday use
MSI lists one DisplayPort 1.4a (HBR3), two HDMI 2.1 inputs and a headphone output. Both HDMI and DisplayPort are specified to support 2560 × 1440 at up to 300Hz. The monitor supports PIP/PBP, but has no KVM. MSI lists tilt, swivel, pivot and 0–110mm height adjustment, plus a 100 × 100mm VESA mounting pattern. The included items listed by MSI are a DP 1.4a cable, power cord, AC adapter, quick guide and VESA wall-mount screws. Check MSI’s full specifications.

- Supports 130% sRGB, 95% DCI-P3, and 89% Adobe RGB color gamut, DisplayHDR 400, 1000:1 static ratio
- Adaptive Sync, console mode for PS5 and Xbox, supporting 1080p and 1440p at both 60Hz and 120Hz with VRR for tear-free gaming
- 2x HDMI 2.1, 1x DisplayPort 1.4a, headphone-out jack, HDMI CEC support with PIP/PBP functionality for multi-source viewing
- Fully adjustable stand, height up to 5.1 inches, tilt from -5 to 20 degrees, swivel from -30 to 30 degrees, pivot from -90 to 90 degrees, 100 x 100mm VESA mounting compatibility
RTINGS reports sharp text and an ergonomic stand, but also narrow viewing angles and difficulty handling glare when a bright light source is directly in front of the screen. It found no USB hub or work-focused extras. RTINGS says firmware can be updated over DisplayPort; its tested unit was manufactured in December 2025 and ran firmware FW.121. The review’s September 18, 2026 update confirmed PIP/PBP modes.

Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you want 1440p, a very high PC refresh ceiling and Mini-LED HDR in one monitor, and can accept the reported dark-scene artifacts.
- Look elsewhere if clean motion in dark scenes, wide viewing angles, USB connectivity or a built-in KVM matters more than refresh rate and VA contrast.
- For console-first use, decide based on its listed 1440p/120Hz support and HDR features rather than the 300Hz headline.
- For color work, RTINGS found the dedicated sRGB mode accurate out of the box, though it can have a warm or red tint that calibration may address. The broad gamut specification by itself does not prove unit-level accuracy.
On balance, the MAG 274QPF X30MV is a specialized gaming display rather than an all-purpose connectivity upgrade: its case is strongest when high PC refresh and bright, high-contrast HDR outweigh VA motion and viewing-angle compromises.
