Yes: the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is a Windows 11 gaming handheld built around Intel’s Lunar Lake generation, while MSI’s Ryzen AI 300 laptops use AMD’s Zen 5-based Strix Point platform. They are different kinds of computers: the Claw puts an 8-inch screen and controls in a 795g handheld, whereas MSI’s 16-inch Stealth A16 AI+ and Creator A16 AI+ laptops offer a larger work-and-play format and optional discrete GeForce RTX 40-series graphics.
What MSI announced
At COMPUTEX 2024, MSI introduced the Claw 8 AI+ as a Windows 11 gaming handheld with an 8-inch display and Intel Core Ultra processors codenamed Lunar Lake. The announcement also covered Ryzen AI 300 Series laptops, including the Stealth A16 AI+ and Creator A16 AI+. MSI describes those laptops as using Zen 5 CPU architecture, XDNA 2 NPU technology and Radeon 800M integrated graphics, with optional GeForce RTX 40-series graphics. MSI’s COMPUTEX announcement
“Strix Point” is the codename associated with the Ryzen AI 300 generation; Ryzen AI 300 Series is the commercial name MSI uses in its announcement. The Claw is not a Ryzen AI 300 device: it is an Intel-based handheld.
MSI Claw 8 AI+ specifications
The following figures are for MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ A2VM specification. Configurations can vary; MSI’s current product page identifies the top processor and graphics options as Core Ultra 7 (Series 2), including the 258V configuration, and Intel Arc 140V graphics. MSI Claw 8 AI+ A2VM specifications

What changed from the earlier Claw design
MSI’s launch announcement highlighted an additional Thunderbolt 4-capable USB-C port, revised LB/RB button feel, a larger battery and a lighter wall-mounted charger. On the A2VM, the two Thunderbolt 4 ports make it possible to connect compatible peripherals or a dock while charging; a microSD reader is also built in.
How MSI’s Ryzen AI 300 laptops compare
The meaningful distinction is not simply Intel versus AMD. The Claw is designed to be picked up and played as a self-contained handheld; an A16 laptop gives you a 16-inch computer with a keyboard and touchpad, and selected Stealth A16 AI+ and Creator A16 AI+ configurations can add an RTX 40-series GPU. That option changes the laptop’s graphics potential, but no direct performance benchmark between these systems is established.

| Use or feature | MSI Claw 8 AI+ | MSI Ryzen AI 300 A16 laptops |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor | 795g handheld with integrated controls | 16-inch laptop; external peripherals are optional |
| Screen | 8-inch, 1920 × 1200 touchscreen with 48–120Hz VRR | Panel specifications vary by laptop model; a specific resolution or refresh rate is not stated here |
| Graphics choices | Integrated Intel Arc 140V, up to | Radeon 800M integrated graphics; optional GeForce RTX 40-series graphics on Stealth A16 AI+ and Creator A16 AI+ |
| Battery context | 80Wh in the A2VM specification | MSI lists 82Wh batteries for Summit A16 AI+ and Prestige A16 AI+; that figure should not be assumed for every Ryzen AI 300 laptop |
| Expansion | Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, microSD reader and one M.2 2230 storage slot | Model-specific; the announcement does not establish a single port or upgrade configuration for all A16 laptops |
Choose the Claw if the built-in controls, compact form and handheld screen are the point. Choose a Ryzen AI 300 laptop if you want a larger display and laptop input devices, or need the option of discrete RTX graphics. The Claw’s 80Wh battery and MSI’s listed 82Wh batteries for Summit and Prestige A16 models are close in nominal capacity, but that alone does not predict runtime: workload, cooling and power limits differ across a handheld and laptop.
Battery-life claims and what they establish
MSI advertises “4Hrs+ Gameplay Lifetime” in Endurance Mode and “28Hrs+ 1080p Video Playback” for the Claw 8 AI+. These are vendor claims, not independent test results; MSI notes that outcomes depend on test configuration and system settings. They should not be treated as a guarantee for a particular game, brightness level or usage pattern. MSI Claw 8 AI+ product page
