Choose the ASRock B450M PRO4 if you want room to expand. It has four DDR4 slots (up to 128GB), two M.2 sockets and a second full-length expansion slot. The MSI B350M Gaming Pro is a sensible lower-cost option when two memory slots, one M.2 drive and its available PCIe x1 slots are enough. For either used board, verify the exact revision, installed BIOS and Ryzen 3 2200G support before paying; specifications alone cannot confirm that a particular board will POST.

Compatibility and BIOS come first

Both boards use the AM4 socket and are described by their manufacturers as supporting Ryzen processors. That does not guarantee that every second-hand sample will start with a Ryzen 3 2200G (a Raven Ridge APU). The installed firmware, board revision and the manufacturer’s CPU-support list determine compatibility.

  1. Ask for a clear photo of the model and revision markings on the board.
  2. Check that revision against the exact MSI or ASRock CPU-support page and BIOS history.
  3. Ask the seller which BIOS version is installed and whether the board has been tested with an AM4 processor.
  4. If an update is required, follow the model-specific procedure. A board that cannot boot the 2200G may require a supported older CPU or a repair shop for the update.

Do not assume either board provides BIOS Flashback. ASRock’s BIOS notice lists B450M Pro4 version 10.62 dated September 24, 2026, and warns: “ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if you are going to use Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU on your system.” Because the 2200G is Raven Ridge, read the complete release notes for the BIOS currently installed instead of flashing to the newest file blindly: ASRock BIOS support.

Memory: the biggest upgrade difference

MSI: adequate for a fixed, modest build

The MSI has two DDR4 slots and a manufacturer-listed maximum of 32GB. Install a matched two-module kit if you want dual-channel operation; filling both slots leaves no empty slot for a simple later addition, so replacing the kit may be necessary.

ASRock: four slots and a higher ceiling

The ASRock provides four DDR4 slots and lists support up to 128GB. Two modules can run in dual channel now, while two open slots preserve an easier upgrade path. Actual supported speed depends on the 2200G, the modules and the slot configuration. Advertised overclocked memory rates are not guaranteed plug-and-play speeds.

Storage: count sockets and check protocols

MSI’s single M.2 connector

MSI specifies one M.2 socket alongside four SATA ports. Confirm that the SSD’s keying and protocol match the socket before ordering; an M.2 shape alone does not prove compatibility.

ASRock’s two M.2 sockets

ASRock lists a PCIe Gen3 x4 Ultra M.2 socket and a second SATA M.2 socket, plus four SATA ports. The M2_2 socket shares lanes with SATA3_3: using one disables the other. Plan the drive layout before connecting a SATA device, and verify whether your chosen SSD is PCIe/NVMe or SATA: ASRock’s detailed storage specification.

Expansion, graphics and USB

The MSI provides one primary PCIe 3.0 x16 slot for a graphics card and two PCIe 2.0 x1 slots for smaller cards. The ASRock adds a second full-length slot, but with a Ryzen processor it operates at PCIe 2.0 x4. It is useful for selected capture, networking or storage cards, not equivalent to a second x16 slot for a high-end multi-GPU setup.

Both boards list VGA, DVI-D and HDMI outputs. ASRock explicitly documents integrated Radeon Vega graphics for Ryzen APUs, which aligns with using the 2200G’s integrated graphics. MSI’s detailed graphics-output section attaches a processor qualification referring to 7th Gen A-series/Athlon processors rather than clearly confirming every Ryzen APU. If you intend to run without a discrete card, check the board manual and support page for the exact model and BIOS before relying on those outputs.

Which board fits your build?

Pick the ASRock B450M PRO4 when:

  • You expect to exceed 32GB of RAM or want four DIMM slots for painless expansion.
  • You want two M.2 sockets and understand the M2_2/SATA3_3 lane-sharing rule.
  • You need USB 3.1 Gen2, including a rear Type-C connector.
  • A second long PCIe slot is useful and x4 electrical bandwidth is sufficient.
  • The ASRock sample has a verified BIOS and is in better condition or similarly priced.

Pick the MSI B350M Gaming Pro when:

  • The board is substantially cheaper or its condition is demonstrably better.
  • Your plan is 16–32GB of RAM, one M.2 drive and a single graphics card.
  • You specifically need two PCIe x1 slots.
  • You have confirmed a BIOS that supports the 2200G, or have a reliable way to update it.

Neither manufacturer’s specification establishes current used-market stock, seller reliability, condition, or a performance advantage with this exact APU. Treat price and condition as local variables rather than assuming the B450 chipset automatically makes the ASRock the better value.

Used-board inspection checklist

  • Confirm the exact model name, revision and BIOS version with photos or a boot-screen image.
  • Inspect the AM4 socket, DIMM latches, M.2 retaining screw, PCIe slots and USB connectors for damage.
  • Ask whether the board POSTs, detects all memory slots and displays video from the intended output.
  • Check that the rear I/O shield, M.2 screw and required heatsinks are included.
  • Match the power supply’s CPU connector and the case’s micro-ATX mounting pattern.
  • Agree on a return option when the seller cannot demonstrate operation with a compatible processor.

Bottom line

On published specifications, the ASRock B450M PRO4 is the more expandable platform for a Ryzen 3 2200G: four memory slots, a 128GB listed ceiling, two M.2 sockets, USB Gen2 Type-C and an additional long slot. The MSI B350M Gaming Pro remains a reasonable choice for a basic, inexpensive build if its two-slot, 32GB memory limit and single M.2 connector meet your needs. The deciding factor for either used board is verified BIOS compatibility and physical condition, not the chipset name alone.
