Yes—MSI Afterburner is receiving current releases. MSI lists version 4.6.6 as Final and 4.6.7 as Beta, both dated September 2026. That supports saying the software is active again, but it does not show that MSI formally shut it down and then revived it.
What “back from the dead” means
The clearest sign is MSI’s release listing: two Afterburner versions, on separate release tracks, carry September 2026 dates. MSI’s product page also describes Afterburner as free and compatible with graphics cards from all brands. The phrase “most used graphics card software” appears on MSI’s page as a promotional claim; no independent usage statistic is established here.
MSI’s support page identifies GPU overclocking, on-screen display (OSD), monitoring, and customizable fan settings among the software’s functions. These are controls and information features, not a promise that installing the program will increase frame rates by a particular amount.
What is the latest MSI Afterburner version?
| Track | Version | MSI-listed date | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Final | 4.6.6 | September 2026 | MSI’s listed final release. |
| Beta | 4.6.7 | September 2026 | A separate beta track; it is not the same as the final release. |
For more detail on the beta, Guru3D’s listing describes Afterburner 4.6.7 Beta 3, build 17352, updated June 19, 2026, for Windows. It notes work on navigation in the voltage/frequency curve editor and thermal curve analysis. Those changes may matter if you tune or study GPU behavior, but the notes do not establish a performance gain.

Should you use Final or Beta?
Choose Final if you prefer the listed non-beta release
MSI labels 4.6.6 as Final. That makes it the straightforward choice for someone who does not need beta-specific changes and would rather avoid using a build explicitly marked Beta. The sources do not provide comparative stability testing, so this is a track-based choice, not a guarantee that one version will work better with every system.

Consider Beta if its changes suit your workflow
Version 4.6.7 is marked Beta by MSI. The detailed Beta 3 notes describe curve-editor navigation and thermal curve analysis work. Consider whether those changes are useful to you, and check compatibility for your GPU and driver combination. No independent head-to-head stability or performance results are established.
Is MSI Afterburner safe to download?
Use MSI’s official Afterburner page or Guru3D’s Afterburner page. MSI warns that phishing sites imitate the software and names those two locations as legitimate download sources. Avoid third-party mirrors, and confirm you are on the intended site before downloading.

- Open MSI’s Afterburner page or Guru3D’s Afterburner page.
- Check the release label: Final or Beta. Do not assume a beta listing is the final version.
- Download from that page and review its release notes for the build and changes you intend to use.
What the release news does not confirm
A July 2026 Tom’s Hardware report said developer Alexey Nicolaychuk, known as Unwinder, was working on a voltage/frequency heatmap for a future 4.6.7 beta. At that time, a non-beta release containing the feature had not been announced. Because MSI’s page now lists a later release date, the roadmap report alone does not confirm whether the heatmap shipped; check the current release notes before relying on it.
