Motti Beck was named CEO of Tera Systems on June 21, 2005, when the company was an electronic design automation (EDA) startup developing tools to analyze chip designs before physical implementation. The appointment is historical: Beck later told EE Times that he had left Tera by the end of 2005.
What Tera Systems did
EE Times described Tera as an EDA startup offering “physical implementation regression” tools. The software was intended to help front-end design engineers analyze a functional description before implementation, rather than wait until later stages of chip design to uncover problems.
Beck said Tera was working with a handful of customers doing 90-nanometer production. He named LSI Logic, IBM, and Oki Semiconductor as early adopters, according to the 2005 report. Those names and the process-node detail reflect Beck’s account at the time, not a current customer list or product specification.
What the 2005 report said about Tera’s scale
The June 2005 EE Times article reported that Tera had approximately 45 employees, most of them in research and development and based in San Jose. It also said the company had secured $14 million in venture financing from VantagePoint Venture Partners the previous April. These are figures reported in 2005, not current company metrics.

Beck described Tera’s technology as “winning” and “unique” in the article. He also said: “We believe that this [technology] is something that the semiconductor industry needs. As more companies move to 90 nanometer and below, demand will increase.” That was his 2005 view of the market opportunity, not evidence of later adoption or commercial results.
Beck’s career background at the time
At the time of his appointment, Beck was described as the founder, president, and CEO of Bindkey Technologies, which had been acquired by DuPont Photomasks. He had also been president and COO of Butterfly Communications, later acquired by Texas Instruments, and had spent 15 years in engineering, marketing, and senior management roles at National Semiconductor.
Later biographies add that Beck was a senior director of enterprise market development for networking at NVIDIA. NVIDIA’s GTC session catalog summarizes earlier roles at DuPont Photomask, BindKey, Butterfly Communications, and National Semiconductor; Lenovo Press gives a similar author biography and identifies his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Technion–Israel Institute of Technology. These biographies are dated career summaries and do not establish his present employment status.

In a January 2006 follow-up, EE Times reported that Beck had told the publication he had not been with Tera since the end of 2005. The article discussed the possibility that Tera might close, but did not confirm that the company had shut down. The available reporting therefore supports Beck’s departure by that date, not a definitive claim about Tera’s ultimate fate.
