The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is a compelling US clamshell foldable for people who want a cover screen that can run apps, high-end performance and fast charging. It is not an automatic buy: its value depends heavily on the price you find, and its IP48 rating and a reported review-unit screen fault leave durability questions that short-term testing cannot settle.
What the Razr Ultra 2025 gets right
The Ultra’s main advantage is that folding it shut does not make it feel like a phone reduced to notifications and quick replies. Motorola pairs a large inner display with a roomy, high-refresh-rate cover display, then equips the phone with flagship-class processing hardware. That combination makes it one of the more capable clamshell designs for using a phone both open and closed.
Displays: a usable phone when closed
Inner screen
Motorola specifies a 7-inch Super HD pOLED inner display with 1224p resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. The large screen gives you space for the usual full-phone experience when the Razr is unfolded.

Cover screen
The 4-inch external display also runs at 165Hz. In TechRadar’s review, it ran every app the reviewer tested, so it can handle more than notifications and widgets. You can use supported apps without opening the phone, although the practical experience will still depend on how well each app fits a small, nearly square screen.

The outside display also helps with photography: you can frame shots using the rear cameras while the phone is folded. That makes it useful for self-portraits as well as ordinary quick checks.
Performance, software and everyday use
The Razr Ultra uses Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512GB of storage in the listed configuration. Those are flagship-tier specifications, appropriate for demanding apps and multitasking; they also give the phone a stronger performance profile than a foldable designed primarily around style or basic use.
Motorola lists Moto AI features including Catch Me Up and Look & Talk, Gemini integration, Smart Connect and Google Photos editing tools. Availability and behavior can change with region, account setup and software updates, so treat these as features offered for the phone rather than permanent guarantees that every tool will work identically for every owner.

Cameras: capable hardware, not guaranteed results
The rear system consists of three 50-megapixel cameras. Motorola describes it as “the first triple 50MP camera system on a flip phone”; that is the company’s claim about the category, not an independent ranking of image quality. The combination of rear cameras and the cover-screen preview offers a flexible way to shoot, especially when you want to use the main cameras for a selfie.
TechRadar found that photos could compare favorably with images from the iPhone 16 Pro and Galaxy S25 Ultra in some scenes, but not in every one. That is a more useful expectation than treating the megapixel count as a promise: results depend on the scene, and the review does not establish that the Razr consistently beats either conventional flagship.

Battery life and charging
Motorola lists a 4,700mAh battery and 68W TurboPower charging. The company claims more than a day and a half of use and a full charge in 40 minutes. Those are Motorola’s figures, not a guarantee for every owner; battery life varies with settings, signal, apps and workload.
In its review, TechRadar reported all-day battery life and said the Razr Ultra beat most competitors in the publication’s lab tests. That supports the phone as a strong endurance option among the devices TechRadar tested, but it should not be mistaken for a result from an independent test conducted here.
Durability: improved protection, with limits
Motorola uses titanium reinforcement in the hinge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic on the cover. The phone carries an IP48 rating. That provides water protection and limited dust protection; it does not make the Razr dustproof. As with any folding phone, the hinge and flexible inner display are parts to treat with care, and the available short-term review evidence cannot establish how well they will hold up over years of use.
TechRadar reported that its first review sample intermittently turned white and was replaced; the second sample worked without the same issue. This is a single reviewer’s experience, not evidence of a general failure rate, but it is relevant context for a costly phone whose folding display is central to its design.
Motorola describes a soft case with a built-in ring and kickstand as included. Its official guide also says the phone has a Motorola-developed inner-screen protector and warns: “Don’t use third-party screen protectors.” Do not remove the factory inner film to install a generic replacement; consult Motorola’s guidance if it is damaged or needs attention.

There is no single answer to which is better without specifying the Galaxy Z Flip generation and the price each phone is selling for. A useful comparison should check the features that affect daily use, not just the fact that both phones fold in half.

- Cover screen: compare the apps each model allows you to run, screen size and refresh rate. The Razr Ultra’s 4-inch, 165Hz cover display ran all apps tested by TechRadar.
- Inner display: compare screen size and brightness alongside refresh rate; the Razr’s stated inner panel is 7 inches, 1224p and 165Hz.
- Performance and memory: compare the exact processor and memory configuration for the Galaxy generation you are considering. The Razr Ultra has Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16GB LPDDR5X.
- Cameras: compare camera versatility and real-world image results, not megapixel counts alone. The Razr’s three 50MP cameras are a distinctive specification, but TechRadar’s scene-dependent comparisons do not establish an across-the-board win.
- Battery and charging: compare capacity and charging speed, as well as independently reported endurance. Motorola lists 4,700mAh and 68W charging for the Razr Ultra.
- Protection and support: compare hinge and cover materials, dust protection, water-resistance ratings and the manufacturer’s update commitment for the exact model and region.
- Price and storage: compare like-for-like unlocked configurations and the actual checkout price, including promotions. A launch price or list price is not necessarily the price available when you buy.
If a large, app-capable cover screen and fast charging are your priorities, the Razr Ultra makes a strong case. A Galaxy Z Flip may suit you better if its exact generation offers a feature you value more, or if it is substantially cheaper at the time you shop; the evidence here does not support a universal winner across all models and prices.

TechRadar reported a US launch price of $1,299 for the 512GB/16GB configuration, with the 1TB model priced $200 more at launch. Motorola’s US product page displayed a $1,499.99 list price and a $799.99 promotional price in a 2026 page capture. These are different price snapshots, not a promise that the promotion remains available on October 3, 2026. Check Motorola’s current listing and the checkout total before you buy, and confirm the storage configuration in stock.
For a US unlocked listing, the product phrase to look for is “Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 unlocked smartphone.” Verify that the specific listing is unlocked and that its storage capacity and return terms match what you want.
Recommended Free Tools
At the $1,299 launch price, the Ultra asked buyers to pay a premium for its displays, hardware and charging. A substantial discount can make that package more attractive, but price alone does not resolve the dust limitations or the uncertainty around long-term foldable-screen durability.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you want a premium clamshell with a cover screen suited to app use, flagship performance and rapid charging.
- Compare alternatives carefully if camera consistency, the longest possible software support or a lower purchase price matters more than the Razr’s two-screen experience.
- Think twice if you need a dustproof phone or are uncomfortable accepting the usual uncertainty around long-term hinge and folding-screen reliability.
Verdict
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is among the strongest clamshell-foldable choices for US buyers who will make real use of its large cover screen and want high-end performance, all-day endurance reported by TechRadar, and fast charging. Calling it the best for everyone would go too far: the right choice depends on its current unlocked price, your priorities and your tolerance for foldable-specific durability trade-offs. At a good sale price, it is much easier to recommend than at its launch price.
