The Motorola razr+ (2026) and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 are both premium clamshell foldables, but their published strengths point to different priorities. The Razr+ lists a larger battery, faster wired charging and a 4.0-inch cover screen designed for full-app use; Samsung lists a newer-sounding processor claim and promises up to seven OS upgrades and security updates. In the US, their manufacturer-listed prices are $1,099.99 and $1,199.99, respectively, before any deal or trade-in. The better fit depends on which features matter to you—not on a proven overall performance winner.
Make sure you are comparing the 2026 Razr+ and Flip8
This comparison is between Motorola razr+ (2026) and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8. Earlier models have different specifications: for example, the 2025 Razr+ had a 4,000 mAh battery, not the 2026 model’s 4,500 mAh. Always check the full model name when shopping, because predecessor specifications do not establish what the current generation offers.
Price and availability: Motorola is listed lower in the US
| Phone | US price basis | Availability detail |
|---|---|---|
| Motorola razr+ (2026) | $1,099.99 US MSRP announced by Motorola in 2026. | Motorola said US preorders began May 14, 2026, with unlocked sales beginning May 21, 2026. |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 | From $1,199.99 before trade-in on Samsung US, listed October 3, 2026. | Exact checkout price depends on current offers and configuration. |
These are not same-day checkout quotes: Motorola’s figure is an announced MSRP, while Samsung’s is a starting price on its US product page. Before buying, compare the same storage configuration and check whether a deal requires a trade-in, carrier activation or other conditions. Prices and stock can change.

Motorola razr+ (2026)
Motorola specifies a 4.0-inch external display and describes using full apps and replying without opening the phone. That could suit someone who wants to handle more tasks from the closed phone, but a screen’s diagonal measurement alone does not show how well a particular app works on it.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8
Samsung calls its outer-screen experience FlexWindow and promotes expanded app support, widgets and customization. If you already use Samsung’s software features, those may matter more than the display size. The available product information does not provide an independently tested, app-by-app comparison between the two phones.
Before choosing, make a short list of the apps and tasks you would use on the outer display—such as messages, navigation or music controls—and confirm that the exact experience you want is supported. Do not treat Motorola’s full-app description and Samsung’s app-support messaging as a measured head-to-head result.

Inner displays: both list 6.9 inches, but the claims are not a matched test
Motorola lists a 6.9-inch Extreme AMOLED inner display, with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz and a high-brightness mode of up to 3,000 nits. Samsung’s current Flip8 materials give a 6.9-inch main screen. Those are manufacturer specifications expressed in different ways; they do not establish which screen looks brighter or feels smoother in comparable conditions.

Battery and charging: capacity is not a battery-life verdict
| Claim | Motorola razr+ (2026) | Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 4,500 mAh, listed by Motorola. | 4,300 mAh typical capacity, listed by Samsung. |
| Charging or playback claim | 45 W TurboPower wired charging; Motorola says it can provide a day’s power in 11 minutes and claims over 31 hours of battery life. | Samsung claims up to 31 hours of video playback, based on its internal lab conditions. |
These figures describe different things: battery capacity, a manufacturer charging estimate and a video-playback claim are not interchangeable measures. Motorola does not give the same playback test context for its “over 31 hours” statement, and there is no matched independent everyday battery test here. Choose the Razr+ if its stated 45 W charging and larger listed capacity appeal to you, but do not assume that either phone will last longer in your own use.

Performance and memory: the model names do not prove a speed winner
Motorola lists a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor and up to 12 GB of RAM, with a virtual RAM boost feature described on its product page. Samsung lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and 12 GB of memory. These are the manufacturers’ published platform and memory details; there is no independent matched performance or gaming comparison here. A processor label alone cannot establish sustained speed, heat behavior or battery impact.
Software and updates: Samsung publishes the clearer support commitment
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip8 receives up to seven OS upgrades and security updates. Motorola’s exact support duration for the razr+ (2026) is not established in the available model-specific information, so an equivalent timeline cannot be stated. If keeping a phone for years is a deciding factor, Samsung has the clearer published commitment; confirm Motorola’s regional and channel-specific policy before treating support duration as a direct comparison.

Durability claims: both list IP48, but damage protection is not guaranteed
Both manufacturers specify IP48 protection. Motorola also cites a titanium-reinforced hinge and Gorilla Glass Victus; Samsung cites its Armor FlexHinge, Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front. These are manufacturer descriptions, not proof that one phone will survive drops, dust exposure or long-term hinge wear better. No matched durability, hinge-life or repair-cost comparison is established here.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Motorola razr+ (2026) if
- You want Motorola’s advertised 4.0-inch cover screen and intend to use full apps while the phone is closed.
- You value its listed 45 W wired charging and 4,500 mAh capacity, while understanding those specifications do not prove longer real-world battery life.
- Its announced US MSRP is more attractive after you compare current offers and the exact configuration you want.
Choose the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 if
- You prioritize Samsung’s published commitment of up to seven OS upgrades and security updates.
- You prefer Samsung’s FlexWindow, One UI 9 and Galaxy software feature set.
- You want the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy claim, without treating it as proof of a measured speed advantage.
Bottom line
There is no evidence-backed overall winner from specifications alone. The Razr+ is the more compelling shortlist candidate for its advertised cover-screen flexibility, charging rate and larger stated battery; the Flip8 is the clearer choice if Samsung’s published software-support commitment and ecosystem matter most. Try the cover-screen tasks you care about where possible, then compare current prices for the exact models and configurations before deciding.
